Shape and Placement
- Must create armor-like features.
- Shapes must be semi-realistic; it should still look like a realistic dinosaur feature, not overly fantasy.
- Cannot alter existing keratin, but can be layered over top of it.
- This mutation should not mimic other mutations, especially Thorny.
Color & Style
- Lines must be drawn to look similar to the lines of the import for style consistency
- Optional keratin area - can be colored as skin or keratin as long as its consistent across the entire design.
-- Can be colored like normal skin, as an extension of the base.
-- Can be treated as keratin spikes, following keratin rules. - Can be affected by color modifiers.
-- If presenting as keratin, remember that it still needs to follow the keratin color rules.
Interactions
- May be combined with other mutation features, such as Thorny to create spikier than normal plates.
- May layer on top of or under other mutations as long as its consistent across the design.
- If presenting as skin, it can cover feathers on a feathered dinosaur to create false bald patches.
- If presenting as keratin, you may cover up feathered features such as crests, and/or draw some feathering over the edges of the plates.

Exoskeleton should not form prominent points nor spikes. They can be slightly spiked if they are overlapping to where the point does not prominently stick out. However, if the layering of the plate causes the spike to appear too large, it will not pass.
Range
- Minimum coverage - at least one armored area or plate of armor.
- Maximum coverage - can cover up to 50% of the body.
- This mutation may present anywhere on the body but it may not cover the eyes and mouth.
-- Can be in separate areas of the body - does not need to all be in one area.
