Shape and Placement

  • Creates spines or thorns over a dinosaurs body, but does not create branching shapes such as antlers.
  • Thorns can slightly curve and twist but should be minimal.
  • Can have some texture but should not be anything complex like defined ridges.
  • Shapes must be semi-realistic; it should still look like a realistic dinosaur feature, not overly fantasy.
  • This mutation should not mimic other mutations, especially Exoskeleton.

Color & Style

  • Lines must be drawn to look similar to the lines of the import for style consistency.
  • There should be a clear delineation between the import base and where the Thorny feature begins/ends.
  • Optional keratin area - can be colored as skin or keratin as long as its consistent across the entire design.
-- Can be colored like normal skin, as an extension of the base.
-- Can be treated as keratin spikes, following keratin rules.
  • Can be affected by color modifiers.
-- If presenting as keratin, remember that it still needs to follow the keratin color rules.

Interactions

  • May affect existing keratin areas to change sizes and shapes.
-- Thorny presenting as skin is still allowed to modify existing keratin!
  • May be combined with other mutation features.
  • May layer on top of or under other mutations as long as its consistent across the design.

Examples

Thorny is displaying in scattered clusters and demonstrating the maximum size (as compared to the import) of spikes allowed.

Thorny is displaying as a ridge of spines. It is not being treated as keratin, so it takes on the base color.

Thorny can change the size and shape of existing keratin- for example, carnotaurus horns. You can make them longer or shorter, change the shape and direction, and make them more/less pointy.

When changing existing keratin, you cannot completely alter the shape to make something new, like double-pronged horns.

Range

  • Minimum coverage - at least a few spikes must be present
  • Maximum coverage - up to 50% of the body can have spikes present.
  • This mutation may present anywhere on the body but it may not cover the eyes and mouth.
-- Can be in separate areas of the body - does not need to all be in one area.
