Shape and Placement

  • Mottled allows both spotting and holes to be added surrounding the edges of a marking, including a fade-like effect or trailing spots both inwards or outwards.
  • Designer's choice as to which marking(s) Mottled affects; it is not attached to any specific other markings
  • Mottled can add holes to markings that usually cannot have holes.
  • Spotted markings (such as Freckled, Starred, Dalmatian) may have clusters or overlapping spots when affected by Mottled.
  • Mottled can only present as small speckling or spotting and not large patches.

Color

  • Mottled is a modifier and does not have any defined color rules. Instead, it should adopt the properties of whichever marking it is affecting - it must follow same color rules.

Interactions

  • Mottled can be freely applied to keratin to add spots.
-- Spots must be one solid color.

Allowed Edge Types

Mottled is a modifier and does not have any defined edge types or range limits. Instead, it should adopt the properties of whichever marking it is affecting - it must use the same edge types.

Examples

Mottled affecting Hom Siamese and adding holes that fade into the marking.

This is an example of Mottled heavily affecting Het Masked with both spots and holes.

Mottled affecting Het Starred and forming clusters of Starred spots.

Mottled affecting Het Cover and forming spots around the exterior. Mottled is also affecting the keratin to add spots.

Mottled can't create holes throughout the marking; they must be around edges.

Mottled cannot form spots throughout the marking range; they must be around the edges of the marking, and cannot form long trails away from it.
