1650: Aubrey

Aubrey is self-absorbed to a huge degree. The way he cares for Garnet might appear to demonstrate the opposite but even that is self-serving. Her hero-worship of him feeds in to his ego, which then makes him feel like he is superior to others because he looks after her. He never neglects on his care for Garnet - perhaps a glimpse of his real personality somewhere? - but that just makes his ego even bigger. Look how good I am at looking after her, I am the best. It forms a big part of his sense of self (and his entitlement to adoration and more) so any change to that sense of self seems to shake his normally cheery, charming demeanour. He can become downright aggressive and violent.
