Breakfast Date
Chirping birds could be heard enthusiastically singing as sunrise rapidly approached. Drift smiled as she looked over to Abaddon, who was walking close beside her. His pale eyes met her glowy gaze and she could not help but get a little flustered. Their friends had once again agreed to babysit for them so they could get some alone time, which they very much appreciated. They loved their little chicks more than anything, but sometimes a break was very much needed to properly relax.
“So, what should we do today?” Abaddon asked, trying to fish for information about what Drift was in the mood for, giving himself the illusion of giving her a surprise.
“Perhaps we could find a beautiful spot and find some good to eat?” she suggested with a wide smile. She knew he would never say no to a hunt, especially not for her, and she was starting to get hungry for breakfast anyway so might as well suggest an activity she knew he would enjoy.
As expected, Abaddon’s eyes lit up in excitement, and one could easily tell from his body language that he was antsy to get started. He knew just the spot for hunting some good game, a beach where seals frequently were hanging around to be specific. Their meat would give a good start of the day, fatty and full of good energy to keep them going for a few hours.
“Come on then, I know a very good spot for hunting.” Abaddon grinned, nodding towards the large, blue ocean.
Drift was excited to see what he had in mind and nodded eagerly. She loved seeing Abaddon hunt for her, not that she could not do it, but sneaking with her glow was of course a whole lot more difficult so he often offered to do it out of convenience, which she did not mind.
A short, peaceful walk later, the carno pair had reached the edge of the beach. Still hidden behind the trees and bushes, Drift laid down so as to not blow Abaddon’s cover. He looked out from between the trees, and sure enough, on the beach laid some seals, young and old alike, relaxing just as the sun started to breach the horizon. He locked his eyes on an older seal, from what he could guess, and slowly snuck out of the woods, avoiding sticks and branches as best as he could. Thankfully, whenever he did make a noise, he could just freeze and take advantage of his dark scales, as the darkness was still to his advantage. Well out of the woods, he snuck low to the ground initially, and then proceeded to sprint and quickly grab the adult seal around its neck, locking his Jaws tight as his teeth sunk into its flesh. The seal let out a loud scream, and the whole beach was now loud with panicked seal noises as most of them started to flee back towards the sea. Abaddon was quick to retreat back into the woods before any of the larger males would attempt to charge and chase him off, and Drift stood up, happily tapping her feet as he returned with breakfast.
Abaddon dropped the seal on the ground, panting heavily. While he was good at running long stretches and wearing prey out to strike, these faster bursts to ambush took more of a toll on him. But he was pleased with himself regardless, as he had provided for his mate successfully.
“You are so much better at this than I am.” Drift happily chirped as she snuggled up to Abaddon’s side.
“Well, you do have a slight disadvantage. I am very positive you would be just as good as me if your glow did not pull the rug from under your feet.” he snorted back with a smile. “Come on, we should eat with a nice view.”
Abaddon picked the limp seal corpse back up and started walking towards a nice lite glade he knew of. There was an opening out towards the ocean, which would give a perfect view of the sunrise as they were eating. Drift had also been there before, so when she realised where he was leading her she got very excited.
Well in the glade, the pair laid down with the seal between them and started to eat as they looked out towards the sparkling ocean. The sun was rising and shining its warm rays upon them, and Drift let out a sigh of relaxation and enjoyment. This was exactly the kind of peace and joy she liked and desired. The perfect setting for any dinner date. Or breakfast, rather, in this instance. The freshly caught seal tasted wonderful. She had not tried seal before and was very pleasantly surprised by it.
“This is really good, Abaddon, thank you.” she said as she looked up at him, her white face full of blood from tearing into the seal.
“I am very glad you like it, princess, I used to have a lot of seal meat as I grew up.” he replied to her with a smile.
As they had finished eating, they just laid and leaned on each other for a while, enjoying the calm. Drift started dozing off for a moment under the warming sunlight and Abaddon’s safe presence. He had no intention of disturbing her, she needed the rest more than anyone. While he was of course helping a lot with the chicks at home, he was the one who had to bring them food, so she never really got a true break or alone time the same way he did. So he let her rest. He was just happy to be there with her by his side.
A short amount of time later, Drift woke up and looked around, slightly groggy and confused from her accidental nap. She almost started to panic before she remembered that Agatha and Rowan had their chicks, so she sighed out in relief.
“I forgot we were on a date for a moment.” she laughed nervously. “Sorry for falling asleep on you.”
“No need to apologise, I have you by my side, that is all I could ask for.” Abaddon replied as nuzzled her cheek.
“Maybe we should get back to them, though.” he then suggested.
“I think that is a good idea. They have probably started to wake up and cause chaos already.” Drift giggled as she got up.
“I am sure they have.” Abaddon agreed.
The pair slowly started making their way back, bringing with them some of the leftover meat for their chicks to enjoy. It was not much, but enough to keep them full for a couple of hours for sure, and maybe they would even take a short breakfast nap. That would be nice, Drift thought to herself and snorted in amusement. Abaddon just smiled towards her. He loved seeing her so nice and glowing with life, not just literally from her bio, but figuratively speaking. She was perfect.
