It was a nice lush day out and with most dinosaurs using the shade to keep out of the heat and put exploring on hold for the day, others were using the warm heat and boost of energy to explore and uncover new areas of the island they had never seen before and with that a small pack of cryos made their way across the sandy beaches that led to the harsh volcanic islands they had never been to before. The small pack was made up of three and the largest being Shale who led the way with Flint and Thresher the smaller of the three following behind him. They had never been to the volcanic area of the island and were up for the challenge with Shale proposing the idea to Flint and Thresher who were quick to agree to join the male cryo so here they were after traveling a bit to get there.

Thresher perked up and moved a bit quicker to catch up to Shale before asking him a question “ so Shale do you even know where you are going ?, I thought the volcano areas were extra dangerous” he said with a hiss before pausing as he watched a small crab move across the sand before shaking his head from it and seeing Flint walk past with an annoyed hiss before he growled “how would Shale know you dummy, this is the first time we all are going now keep up” he said before passing him in which Thresher rolled his eyes and caught up to the two. It was getting warmer the closer they explored the volcanic area. The once bright beach sand turned into harsh ashy black sand and the smell of crisp lava flow filled the air which made Shale come to a stop before looking around. 

“ this is all new to me and besides I like the warmness that this place emits, come on let’s go in further” Shale said before moving forwards climbing the blackened rocks in which Thresher and Flint followed and nodded with each of them studying the black rocks, it was nothing like the lush jungles they usually called home and eventually they spotted the larger rocks that had orange like vein burn lines across them which meant they were getting closer and closer to the more volcanic areas of the hotter region.

Thresher had branded off with Flint from Shale as the two passed a small lava flow pool which popped with small noises as bubbles floated up from the small lava flow before vanishing. Thresher stopped looking closer at the bubbles, eventually getting too close as a bubble popped spraying him with a small splash of the hot lava which made the cryo let out a yelp. “Ouch! Ouch! That hurt” Thresher said, taking a step back and rubbing his snout with his claws in which Flint let out a laugh watching him.

“Whoa this must be that stuff called lava I have heard about from other cryos” Flint said keeping his distance but watching as the bubbles continued to float up and pop. Up ahead Shale heard the commotion from the other took and shook his head before noticing all the plant life had been wilted away due to the harsh heat that the place admitted.  The ashlands were a harsh place where most dinosaurs dared to go and the three weren’t aware of the many dangers that came with the glowing place, but for now they were just at the edges of the ashlands so it was safe to explore, Shale didn’t go to far until Thresher and Flint caught up to him.

“Let’s explore further into the Ashland’s, and you two stay out of trouble” Shale said, giving out a chuckle before jumping down the rocky area. The black sand was vast and more lava flow veins broke through the ground with the three taking careful steps over them especially Thresher who wasn’t keen on getting burnt again like last time with Flint bugging him and getting a swift smack with his tail from Thresher who let out an annoyed hiss “keep it up I’ll push you into the glowing ooze”

“I never knew how vast this area was, it’s amazing,” Flint said, looking ahead as the trio had come across blue water pools that were bright and the ground around them was warm to the touch. They were warm hot spring like pools and the three were quick to go to the water pools edge before investigating to see if it was safe to drink which the hot spring pools smelt fresh along which meant it was drinkable water.

“Look how fresh the water is and it’s super warm here” Shale said leaning down and sniffing the ground before laying his head down and flopping as the warm ground heated his scales, in which Thresher and Flint joined in laying down on the warm ground. The new area they had been exploring was so different to the lush jungle they usually lived in and they were having fun with the new area and it was off to more exploring once the three were done enjoying the thermal ground.

Thresher piped up before sitting up “maybe we should continue to explore more inwards I wonder what other things we could come across” before slowly getting up to his feet, in which Shale and Flint followed the trio following the hot spring stream up a hill that was coated in the black rocks that were scattered across the ground. 

“I’m glad we went out today , the heat can’t beat us” Flint said excited running ahead of Shale and Thresher as he tracked the stream which finally led to a large waterfall that was just as bright as the pools and had an orange tinge to the bottom of it as the volcanic activity from the ashlands heated it to an almost boiling point which the three cryos could sense that the waterfall was hot and to stick away from it even though it looked pretty and enticing to want to swim, they had found a main point in the Ashlands as they were now closer to the volcano that made its home in the Ashlands.

“There it is, we must be close to the Volcano … this is just magnificent” Shale said as he walked closer to the waterfall being careful not to fall in, this new area was full of many new experiences for the trio and they were all happy with new found areas with each step they took but the best of it all was the large waterfall they finally had come across. 

“This was such a good idea Shale, I think we should come here a lot more often this place beats all the large bugs” Thresher called out as he jumped across the rocky area making sure he didn’t lose his balance as he followed Flint who was off exploring around the waterfall, in which Shale called up to them “ be careful you two, it’s still dangerous but yeah your fight I could get used to this! No large annoying bugs” it was now time to relax with all the exploring the trio had been traveling all day and were getting tired, plus it was time to enjoy the new area they had found. Shale flopped down and smiled before letting out a content rumble. 

Thresher and Flint on the other hand weren’t done exploring, due to being much younger than Shale and were full of energy. Flint led the way as the two climbed up the waterfall's rocky sides using their claws to dig in so they wouldn’t fall and all they could hear was the sound of the waterfall.  The two got up to the top and let out a roar before looking out across the vast Ashlands revealing a lot more to the area that the three would have to explore and how much potential this place had. 

“ well it looks like we have a lot more to explore around here” Thresher said as he also flopped down letting his leg hang off the edge of the top where they had climbed to, Flint nodding and letting out a hiss as he sat down flicking his tail.  “ I feel like we have been exploring all day” Flint said as he shook himself out “I want a break” he added laying his Head down as Thresher let out a chuckle before speaking.

“Well I’m sure Shale is tuckered out as well and we can do more exploring another day” he hissed before looking down to see Shale passed out and sleeping as the older cryo enjoyed the hot climate of the Ashlands. Flint smiled and nodded before laying his head down as well “ I guess we should rest up for the travel back then that was a lot of walking” he said before relaxing finally and letting out a yawn. It had been the first time in a while since they travelled that far out from the jungle so it was a bit of an eye opener but they had Shale who led them fairly well and it was always a fun time to explore while other dinosaurs were held down by the heat that took hold over the island.

With a final scan of the Ashlands Thresher agreed with Flint’s statement in taking a rest before they would have to make their way back eventually and he had no fuss in that statement, he let out a final yawn and closed his eyes ready for the journey back that was to come from their little exploration.
