Crunch! …. Thump the sound of something large dragged across the floor followed by the scrapping of large scales against the metal ground as a massive shadow hid in the dark dragging a large and fresh kill across the floor. It wasn’t a kill for food but one of offering to another killer of this acro’s own kind in hopes to court a potential partner that was if the two didn’t kill each other, courting among acro’s was dangerous game and Specimen new that while he searched and seeked out a scent that caught his interest. The courting season hadn’t been too successful for him but this acro he was tracking seemed promising as it made itself scarce and hidden away deep in the abandoned buildings on the island, and that acro went by the name of Solaris. The black acro was aware of the presence of Specimen as he kept his distance watching with stern eyes but this was a different approach,one that felt careful and calculated along with the aiding of a meal he didn’t feel threatened by Specimen.

With a stand still stop Specimen dropped the carcass and looked around in the shadows letting out a low grumble before he lifted his throat that made the grumble echo through the husk of a building Solaris made home. Solaris kept quiet as he was fascinated by how specimen looked as the much larger acro spotted plate armoured like scales down his back and muted colors. Along with the song that Specimen rumbled from his throat deep within… it was a call to join with his own song. With careful steps Solaris made himself known as he slinked from the darkness keeping his movement careful and slow as he lowered his head towards the carcass that smelt freshly killed, letting out quiet hisses at Specimen when the larger acro made to quick of movements he didn’t like, courtship wasn’t easy for these giants and it was a rare occurrence that they went well without one of the two leaving with deadly wounds or sometimes even death.

Digging in Solaris took a chunk of the carcass with Specimen watching with narrowed eyes, he was waiting for Solaris to welcome the song he was performing the meal was mostly a distraction for the two and an offering for Solaris in which he was happy to take the offer and ignore Specimen for the first few moments, before his attention turned onto the low grumbling song. Solaris looked up before letting out a low pitched rumbling from his throat as he mimicked Specimen in tone and leaned up showing off his throat with the two at a stand still as their song of rumbles and grumbles intertwined echoing throughout the abandoned building, there was no teeth this time but for how long would these two keep up the dance because most times one of the two would snap but so far so good.

Specimen lowered his head before letting out a series of slams with his tail and making noise from his throat before waiting for Solaris to copy in which the much smaller acro did but flared his black feathers at Specimen, a full belly made the two tolerate each other for longer as they repeated the series of moves before silence fell.

“Thank you for the meal and your name was” Solaris said quietly trying not to make eye contact but was interested in Specimen and was showing it but carefully. Now that they were at a talking point Specimen decided to speak up and introduce himself. “My name is Specimen, it’s nice to finally find you and meet you. nice place you have here, and I’m glad you enjoyed the meal” he said with a bow. 

Solaris nodded and smiled before turning his head and nodding to Specimen to follow him as they needed to get to work building a nest area since Acro’s too quick courtships over the long bond compared to other dinosaurs who called the island home and Solaris wasn’t too keen on keeping another acro around his home but for courting purposes he would tolerate it. Specimen knew this as well as he quickly followed and helped Solaris looked for items and material to make a nest but there wasn’t much around but they would make due, with Solaris picking out a spot that would protect the eggs while Specimen would be away for most of the time.

“This seems like a good spot , what did you find Specimen” Solaris said looking at his new partner who had a mouth full of various items that he found around the abandoned area.  “I found this stuff, it should work” he said, placing it down so Solaris could sort through and pick out what he wanted to add to the nesting area in which he was quick to do so as he picked up items and placed them around to make a comfy nest that would soon be filled with eggs. 

“Thanks for not going for my throat” Solaris said before giving a slight toothy grin in which Specimen let out a laugh and shook his head “ wouldn’t dream of it” he said before leaning down and helping Solaris build the nest to make sure there was enough room for them to be comfortable and enough room to fit hatchlings. Solaris finished his portion before taking a sit down in it and it was perfect, not bad for his first time and it made it quicker with the help from Specimen who was ready to head out and hunt again to prepare and feed Solaris who would watch the nest from here on out,

“I’ll be back , stay here and be safe” he said licking Solaris’s cheek before heading out of the building, he had hatchlings to provide for soon so time was of the essence. Solaris watched as his new courted partner left and shifted in the nest moving things he found unfit before laying his head down and letting out a stressful sigh. Now all he had to do was wait for the return of Specimen and soon hear the sound of crying hatchlings but he wanted to rest, he was going to need it.
