“This should do, plentiful fish and a great spot to set up for Awilix” raspy words come from a large sucho who carried a bunch of fish he had caught in his claws before stepping out of the river and onto the bank before shaking out his black feathers. He went by the name of Kinich and he had plans to court a specific sucho who was full of patterns and crisp brown feathers by the name of Awilix, he had been preparing all morning for her arrival and now he was just doing the finishing touches up before he crossed paths with her as she frequently visited the river during the warmer days.

He had been catching fish all morning and decorating a spot next to the river bank with various flower Lilly’s and shells he had found traveling the beaches to save for this particular moment, he always knew Awilix loved fish and pretty things so he wasted no time in collecting what he thought she would like and built a prime nesting area for them… that was if she accepted him as her partner for the season. Not far from the spot Awilix emerged from the water and picked up on Kiniche’s scent which made her follow it in hopes to find the black feathered male sucho, and to get away from the usual basking spots that were overcrowded with more of their kind due to the courtship season being in full swing, it always drove her nuts.

“He must be trying to get away from the crazy too” she said to herself as she got out of the river and shook out her feathers before making her way and soon spotting Kinich as he was setting down the various fish he had caught for her, unaware that she was watching him with a smile and a giggle at his efforts before she spoke up.

“Who’s this fancy thing for, someone special? I assume” Awilix said as she looked around with wide eyes but she was curious what he was up to, in which Kinich was caught off guard causing him to turn around and jumble his words along with his feathers puffing up due to the scare. Seeing Awilix before him, he composed himself before clearing his throat before speaking and giving a bow to her.

“Well it’s for someone special that’s correct, and she just arrived” Kinich said waiting for her reaction and gave a slight smile before stepping aside to show off all the fish he had caught her, along with the well decorated nesting area he worked very hard on so it was perfect.

“Oh wow you have out done yourself Kinich, this is all for me?” Awilix said with a red face as her feathers puffed in shyness, she only ever courted a few times and it was never this extravagant, this was super special as she noticed all the fish he had caught her and the nesting area that really caught her eye with all the shells and Lilly petals he had collected to make it extra special for Awilix.

She carefully inspected the nesting sight as Kinich watched in anticipation on what she was going to say about it, this was his first time courting her and he wanted to make sure he was impressive at first glance which seemed like he was succeeding so far. Awilix turned around and smiled as she walked towards him and let out a flirty grumble before she spoke. “ I love it, you did such a amazing job Kinich and the nesting site is beautiful” Awilix said as she took a seat next to the fish pile and picked on out with her jaws “mind if we share” she said looking up at Kinich who nodded and let out a sigh of relief at Awilix’s reaction to his invitation to court her, it was a success. 

Kinich sat down and grabbed a fish beside Awilix and joined her on the fine dining of the fish as the two exchanged licks and nuzzled one another, eventually after a full belly Meal the two decided to enjoy the river water next to their new nesting area with Awilix going in first and soon followed by Kinich. Splashing and chasing one another almost created a dance like courtship for the two with Awilix taking the lead and then copying Kinich as he showed off his various water moves which captured Awilix in awe as she caught herself stopping and watching at times.

The two resurfaced and looked towards the nest with Awilix wanting to return and make herself at home with her new partner and make sure the nesting area was in tip top shape for when the two would welcome hatchlings into the world in the next few days, Kinich followed shaking himself off as he got out before watching his new mate inspect.

“This is perfect, I’m sure the hatchlings will love it Kinich” Awilix said as she sat down in the soft bedding he had collected, moving some stuff around as she fluffed out her feathers and let out a content sigh. In a few days she would be sitting on a batch of eggs that the two would fiercely protect while they waited for them to hatch. 

“I’m glad I did good and you approve of it Awilix” Kinich said with a soft hiss as he joined her on the nesting area, the two would need to rest up as they would have their claws full soon enough. Awilix moved her head and rested it on the back of Kinich, closing her eyes; she was content and full. Kinich gave off a smile and laid his head down with his tail wrapped around them before nudging a few things out of the way from the nest and tucking his head into Awilix before slowly drifting off to sleep. The pair were excited for what was to come in the next few days and that meant being fully rested and ready to welcome their hatchlings when the time came.
