The sound of loud bellowing and dust being kicked up, snorting and the shaking of crests which caused hard keratin to clash and crack. It was courtship season and all the giants that were normally peaceful now showed off the strength and move sets in hopes to successfully court a partner for the season. Deep in the woods the clacking came from a large styracosaurs herd who were in full swing of courting with a large male with a complex pattern across his face stood his ground as he shook his head flaunting his crest before letting out a loud bellow.

It was Vulcan and he had been preparing for the season for the last few months mostly bulking up and making sure his crest was in prime shape to show off, he had been battling and clashing with males all afternoon and he was sure of where he stood in line with most males backing down or getting themselves hurt in the process.

“Who’s next to challenge me” he snorted looking around and stomping his foot on the ground causing dirt to flick up.Vulcan paused as he looked around seeing all of the other males shy away with most limping or tending to their wounds from prior spar battles which made the riled up male snort before raising his head, he now had his eyes on a specific styracosaurs who was making his way towards Vulcan with a determined look across his face letting out a snort so he was known. 

“I will if nobody else will, but I aim to impress not just battle” Crusader said standing in front of Vulcan which interested the bull but in a different sense other than fighting. Crusader let out a loud roar and stomped his front feet before shaking his crest which Vulcan did back to him as he stepped forwards with a look in his eye, this wasn’t about fighting this was about looking to impress and court one another but it was vastly different to normal courtship and one that ended with battle.

Crusader was much smaller then Vulcan and it showed but the young bull had a lot of scars to show for it which meant he was good in a fight and survival which was a must in styracosaurus courtship pairs. “I am keen to see how you fair” Vulcan said as he rushed forwards with his horn down straight towards Crusader in which the young bull was ready letting out a snort of smoke from his nostrils as the sound of crests clashed together with the two coming to a standstill, the two locked in with one another. This is what Vulcan was looking for in a partner and Crusader was checking off all the boxes , which made the bull back off and nod in approval while Crusader shook off the charge and watched Vulcan.  

“ wow he is good, Hopefully he is getting impressed by me” Crusader said under his breath as the two circled one another testing with quick kicks and chargers before returning to the circle move, it was like they were almost dancing in a way which was different from others styracosaurus courted but it was unique to them which made it all worth it. “I like your style, it’s exactly what I’m looking for in a partner” Vulcan said before seeing Crusader pause in which he was met with a smile, the two came to a spot as they approached one another slowly and nuzzled each other's beaks together, as well to catch their breath. The crowd around them finally broke off giving the two some space and time alone now.

“My name is Vulcan and your’s is?” He said taking a sit down welcoming Crusader to join him, In which Crusader quickly responded and answered him “my name is Crusader it’s nice to finally have a proper meeting without the Crowd around us” as he sat down next to Vulcan who waited patiently and smiled before giving Crusader a lick to the cheek and offered some fresh greens to Crusader which he had stored in the area for when he had met his partner for the season.

Crusader smiled and took them munching down before lifting his head and licking Vulcan in return in thank you for the snack along with the welcoming lick. It was nice to enjoy their time together now that the rest of the herd had finally calmed down and the impressing part was over for them, it was time to get to know one another and names were a great start for the two.

“ Do you have any ideas for a good place to nest Crusader?” Vulcan asked as he watched the herd from afar and looked around, Vulcan had never been great at picking spots so he was hoping that his new partner had an idea for where they would choose to nest. Crusader let out a laugh at the rush to get things sorted and smiled before shaking his head and looking around “ I have some ideas on where we could nest” he said before standing up and waiting for Vulcan.

“Well let’s get too it shall we” he said cheerfully, watching as Vulcan got up and followed behind Crusader who lead the way as they talked about how they would raise their hatchlings and who would cover what for one another but the two were getting ahead of themselves all on their mind was finding the perfect spot. Soon they would have to watch their feet as small hatchlings would be rushing to keep up with them as the herds traveled when the time came for that, but for now the two kept a keen eye out for the nesting spot with Vulcan pointing out a few but Crusader would laugh them off before they finally found a spot, it was nestled away in some thick brushes and with that it was time to get building.

“ this place is perfect Crusader” Vulcan said before smiling and nuzzling his partner as Crusader let out a laugh and returned the favour “it’s time to prepare” he said before the two went off into the forest ready to collect what they needed for the eggs that were to come.
