With a quick dart and waves splashing jaws snapped working hard to catch a large fish that did everything In its power to not get caught by a sucho who went by the name of Waves, her bright blue and white feathers standing out as she growling lifting her head out of the water shaking the excess off of her, she was on the hunt as she was confident that she could win over another female sucho who went by the name of Awilix if she just caught a big enough fish to gift her and offer as a courting gift. Awilix had been on waves radar for awhile now and that it was courting season she wanted only the best to show for it but in doing that it meant catching the biggest fish she could but it was proving to be a challenge more than she thought.

“These pesky fish, I am so close only the best for Awilix” she said to herself before diving back down to try and snatch a large fish that kept escaping her grasp but it was the perfect size so she needed to catch it quickly. From the side of the river Awilix watched In amusement at Wave’s struggle as she also had eyes on courting the colorful feathered sucho herself, but she was biding her time. 

“Always trying to impress me huh Wave” Awilix said chuckling to herself as she kept a keen eye on her before standing but and shaking out her feathers before diving in to enjoy the water, a lot of the sucho bask came here to court as the fish were plentiful and there was vast room of water that they could use to court with swimming and show off how powerful they were in the water which was important in sucho courtship. 

Waves had finally fought hard enough to catch the large fish as her jaws sunk into it causing it to stop moving as she resurfaced and held the fish in her mouth with a grin, she had finally caught it and it was massive perfect to gift and court Awilix with but as soon as she looked at where she last seen the brown feathered sucho. She had vanished which left Waves confused this wasn’t going to be simple it seemed like Awilix was going to play hard to get.

“Now where is she off too?” Waves said as she looked around swimming towards the spot she had last seen her, little did she know she was about to be surprised by just who she was looking for and soon enough. Awilix surfaced behind Waves and playfully splashed water towards Wave’s who took it straight to the face, almost making her lose her prize. 

“ I got this for you Wave’s” she paused seeing Waves with a fish as well “ well looks like we both had the same courtship gift idea” she said letting out a laugh through her teeth, in which Waves shook her head at the same thought.

“The fish was my idea first” Waves said before swimming over and offering it to Awilix who traded off the fish she had caught for Waves in return, the two both enjoying each other's fish catches they had gotten both licking their jaws. They began to swim around one another playfully copying each others movements of course with Awilix in the lead and Waves keen to follow her, the two had eyes for one another and any other sucho’s who approached were swiftly chased off by Waves with her returning beside Awilix in which she was quick to give a smile and soon jumped up onto the bank waiting for Waves who quickly joined in both shaking off their now wet feathers.

“Well I’m glad we finally got to meet each other during this season, I have always had eyes on you” Awilix said as she fluffed up her head feathers looking at Waves who got red in the face at the sentence she said. Moving closer Waves nodded and smiled before sitting right next to her “ oh did you now, seems like we shared the same thought” as Waves looked around happy to be beside her partner.

“ so it’s official because I accept your courtship gift” Waves mentioned before waiting for an answer from Awilix who nodded in agreement. “I can’t say no to such a pretty sucho and one who know my fish taste so well” she added, the two were in agreement that they would court for the season and both seemed to be just as excited. Sitting by the bank made it all but better as they could dry off and continue to spend time with one another, each grooming each other's feathers from the water with Awilix letting out a happy like grumble as she was content with Waves as a partner. They would continue to catch fish for one another in the next upcoming day before getting ready to be on the search for a nesting site which would provide a great place to raise hatchlings when the time came to do so, but for now they were in awe with one another.

Waves rested her head on Awilix’s back as she let out a lazy yawn, all that fishing and swimming had her tuckered out and it seemed like Awilix felt the same. They aren’t in any rush but wanted to enjoy their time together a bit longer before having to think about more important things to do. Awilix let out a yawn as well before she tucked her head back to snuggle with Wave’s the two letting out a content grumble as they periodically preened one another before falling asleep at the bank as the sun beat down and warmed their wet feathers the pair now courted and excited to start the season off before having to raise the hatchlings that would chirp out if the nest that was on their next thing to do but for now peace was what they were enjoying beside one another.
