Love was in the air as the courting season had come into full force with most dinosaurs looking to pair or impress one another in a chance to rear young to plant roots for their future bloodline, every dinosaur had their way to court one another especially a larger carnivore called the cryolophosaurs who called the island their home although courtship was not always easy and did need to be handled with delicate care in most cases. It had been a busy season for the cryos who were on the look out to court one another with most building nests and others using their crests to impress one another in dance or songs,  but one cryo in particular was not having the best of luck so far and that was Tyr.

“Aww man I suck at this, nothing is working” he said to himself as he looked down at an attempt of a nest with most cryos who came across him taking one look and deciding to look elsewhere. The courtship season had just started and if he couldn’t make a nest he wasn’t going to get anywhere, With that Tyr let out a huff before slumping to the ground and swaying his tail back and forth looking as the nest feel apart once again the little sticks that held it up now flattened on the ground. 

“Maybe next year…. Or I could try again” he said to himself before standing up and shaking himself out, picking up the stick and placing it once again before moving to the next, there wasn’t much around to build a nest and his skills were a little lacking which wasn’t a good look, but little did he know he was being watched by a pair of red eyes who watched from a distance intrigued on his markings and flash of blue on his crest. It was a large black feathered cryo who spotted a red face who had been watching Tyr struggle and possibly had the same intentions to court and his sights were set on Tyr but he was figuring out how to approach the much smaller cryo.

“Well here goes nothing” Oni grumbled to himself before making himself known to Tyr who turned hearing the cracks of rigs and sticks that crushed underneath Oni’s weight, he was much bigger then Tyr so he put on an awkward and friendly smile. The two now face with each other with Oni quiet as he studied Tyr who stepped on his nest feeling small up against Oni, but this was his chance.

“oh why aren’t you massive, my name is Tyr” he said as Oni stepped closer with each step which made Tyr anxious as he stumbled over words, this was the closest he had ever been but needed to get ahead and start courting in which the only way he knew how was through the use of his crest and song, screw the nest building besides it was wrecked anyways. Oni came to a stop as he heard Tyr let out a low pitched nose while he flashed his blue crest towards him which caught his eye, it was a song that Tyr was admitting and he hoped that Oni would join in, followed by slow moving head bobs up and down which had went on for a few minutes with Tyr looking up.

it was silent and Oni stood still before he reared back and also admitted a song from his throat followed by also flashing his crest at Tyr in which was an acceptance signal, the courtship was starting and it was a different with Tyr continuing to do so as he flashed his crest a few more times with Oni copying in which they mirrored one another a few more times before the final song came to an end with the two coming to a stand still in which Oni gave off a smile to the much smaller cryo.

“What a beautiful song, not often do I see other cryos use it to court” Oni said softly before waiting for an answer from Tyr who was baffled at his success with Oni. Tyr nodded slowly and smiled before speaking “thank you I enjoyed yours as well, I’m not very good at building nests so I hope you have that covered” he said stepping over his attempt at a nest which left Oni with a good laugh.

“ don’t worry I think I have that covered for us” Oni said walking past Tyr rubbing against him playfully, the courtship was a success and now Oni was focussed on getting materials for the nest he would have to build for the two, Tyr followed and joined in helping out as he picked up various sticks and twigs while Oni found a spot to start building the nest at with carefully taking the things Tyr brought him. They weren’t experienced but they would quickly learn how hard hatchlings were to take care of when they opened up into the harsh world but Tyr and Oni were prepared for that when the time came.

“ Now all we have to do is wait and hope the nest holds,” Oni said, looking down at the nest and taking a step back with Tyr placing a final stone at the base and also taking a look at their work. The two would hunker down and coo each other a small tune strengthening their bond as they would wait for the arrival of hatchlings, Tyr was happy he finally got the show off he was good at courting and Oni was also pleased at his performance, they would make a great pair. 

Further into the night they could hear the songs of other cryo pairs courting and were enjoying each other's company happy that they got the hard part out of the way and their courting season was a success, Tyr leaned over licking Oni and was met with the same from Oni. Who knew all you needed was to let someone hear your song to win them over.
