Queen of Bones X Scraps - (Courtship)

It was courtship season for the vast amount of utahraptor packs that called the island their home with the echoing calls of barks and songs as pairs copied one another in song and dance. Pairing wasn’t always the easiest and had its challenges with one Utah in particular was eyeing up a partner that would be hard to impress let alone her being deemed a queen in a pack and spotting large spikes and spines making her even more scary to try and court. Scraps sat away from the large pack she was apart of and watched as the Queen of bones pushed off many suitors and hissed in annoyance she wasn’t the easiest to impress and Scraps had always had eyes for the larger female spiked raptor as the Queen had a soft spot for the smaller feathered utahraptor but she didn’t think she could ever win her over in courtship but maybe this season was different.

“You can do this Scraps, you have a chance” she said talking to herself walking back and forth pacing trying to figure out how to impress Queen. In which Queen watched Scraps from a distant curiosity on what the scruffy utahraptor was up too, she seemed overwhelmed and had caught her attention. Scraps came to a stop as she caught the gaze of the Queen and gave an awkward smile before bowing and having an idea come to her head as she quickly jetted off into the nearby bushes. She was going to hunt a meal and give it to Queen as a gift and to hopefully court her in which she thought was a great idea, she had seen many other utahs doing it to one another and it always seemed to be accepted and worked out well in then end she just needed to find something to catch.

“I’ll find something to catch and gift to her” Scraps said scratching her collar with her back claws before shaking out her scruffy feathers and looked around for any movement before spotting a small hole which usually was home to small rodent like mammals that she had caught before and would make a great snack. Back at the pack Queen was getting annoyed with all the others who tried to court her and weren’t what she was looking for as she got up and hopped down before looking to see where Scraps had gone following her scent trail. 

“Where are you going, Scraps?” She said through her teeth curious on where she went staying quiet hoping to not spook the much smaller utahraptor as she wasn’t the most confident raptor in the pack, the two always got along and never had issues and she was acting a bit off so Queen went to investigate. Further in the bush Scraps had been looking for the small mammal-like creatures to catch and she was about to score seeing one come up from its burrow. With a quick dash she attacked grabbing the mammal with her claws and killed it, Movement stopping as she caught her breath “well that was easy, I’m hoping Queen will like it” she picked it up again before heading back towards where she had last seen Queen but was met with her both of them bumping into one another with Scraps dropping the mammal kill in front of her as Queen hissed shaking her head.

“There you are, I was wondering where you went off too” Queen said looking down at Scraps before noticing the dead mammal, “oh what’s this for?” She asked before looking at Scraps. 

Scraps got up to her feet quickly and looked at Queen “oh I’m sorry I didn’t mean to run into you!” She looked down at the kill and became red “ well it was for you , for uh courting..” she said slowly before her scruffy feathers puffed up with embarrassment waiting for an answer from Queen.

Queen smiled and sniffed the kill before raising a brow before looking up at Scraps “are you trying to court me?” She asked playfully before waiting for an answer from Scraps who nodded slowly.

“Of course I am!” She barked quickly before waiting for a response in which Queen gave a chuckle and took the kill Scraps had given to her, it was a good sign. In turn Queen motioned for Scraps to follow her as the two went back towards the courting pack and passed by them with Queen leading Scraps somewhere hidden away.

“What’s this place?” Scraps said, looking around before watching Queen stop and turn towards her. Queen and been building a nesting sight in hopes that Scraps would try and court her and if she didn’t she would be the one who would try and she had it hidden until the right moment.

“It’s our nest, I made it while I was waiting for the moment I would court but it seems you beat me to it” she chuckled before walking towards Scraps and licking her cheek playfully “and thank you for the meal” she added waiting for a response from Scraps who was dumbfounded at the sight of the nesting area.

“It’s perfect! You made it so well” she said turning almost red when Queen licked her cheek, her feathers puffing up once more before she stepped forwards and explored the well made nesting site, with Queen watching in excitement at Scraps reaction she seemed to like it and the two agreed on courting one another it seemed. 

“It’s for when the eggs come and to keep the hatchlings safe” she added before laying down and digging into the meal Scraps had gotten her, the two soon enough enjoyed the company of one another and stayed in their new nesting site with Scraps cuddling up to Queen and her doing the same in return, the pack had call calmed down now as it got later in the day. These two had a lot ahead of them but for now enjoying each other's company and new spot was all that was on their minds.

Successfully paired and courted for the Season, and now it was time to await the arrival of hatchlings.
