Quick feet could be heard as laughter followed soon behind a thundering of scales between trees and bushes, as barks echoed before coming to a stop and continuing again and then a voice calling out to another figure who was ahead keeping pace with her jaws open wide and an excited look across her snout. “Dead light wait up! Your to fast” the voice said through laughter and breathes encouraging herself to catch up to the utahraptor that was ahead known as Deadlight who came to a stop quickly waiting for Geode to catch up, they were enjoying some well needed time together especially since it was courting season and the two had a similar idea in who they were picking for a partner for the season.

The two had shown interest in each other often gifting one another flowers whenever they good mostly from Geode while Deadlight gifted rocks and cool stones to her back. But today was different, Deadlight had been watching other Utah raptors court one another and was interested in the various dance-like courtships in which she wanted to try that one Geode.

“Come on Geode I wanna show you something it’s this way” Deadlight said looking backwards with a smile at the smaller purple and black raptor who grinned back and nodded before slowly making her way being Deadlight.

“What are you showing me, it better not be one of your tricks again” Geode said laughing and shook her feathers before noticing a nicely decorated area filled with stones and flowers Deadlight had collected for her stage in effort to court Geode for the season with each spot carefully placed and cleaned. She was stunned as she watched Deadlight turn around and take centre stage inside the little decorative circle and flared her glowing markings at Geode in a way to impress her and keep her attention, it was the first time these two ever courted so Deadlight hoped she was doing something right.

“Oh wow this is so pretty and for me?” Geode said stepping forwards and around carefully to not ruin anything Deadlight had built as she pinned her eyes on her watching her glowing markings flash while Deadlight lowered her head and bobbed it up and down, along with moving her claws and arms in an up and down motion. With a nod she answered Geode and smiled “of course it’s for you, I’m glad you like it” she said hoping that Geode would match her movements and accept the invitation to court with her, in which Geode was quick to respond to the invite as she lowered her head down and followed the movements of Deadlight who amped it up each time.

The two circled one another taking turns to do a little move like dance in which the other would copy and follow suit, with the occasional nuzzle to one another. Geode would lead then Deadlight swapping before they would bark at one another matching each others calm calls, it was often that female Utahraptors would find interest in one another and it seemed a lot easier to court then with the issues these two had other seasons in the male’s with packs who would cause issues. After a bit Deadlight paused and leaned down before grabbing a stone she had found and placed it at Geode’s claws as a gift in acceptance, in which Geode looked down and nudged it before picking it up in her claws to examine it.

“I thought these would be good to help make a nest and a gift” Deadlight said, looking at the stone in Geode’s claws before giving a toothy grin. “I spent all day collecting them for us” she added before shaking herself out. Geode smiled and nodded her feathers puffed up as she looked around, “these are great for a nest Deadlight, I’m so impressed with all the perpetration!’ She said wandering around the area now having her mind set on looking for a nesting spot. Building a nest was all a part of courtship for Utah raptors and the spot needed to be perfect , well hidden and well protected.

“How about this spot Deadlight” Geode called out sniffing the area she had found, it was a bare bush that was surrounded by thorny like plants, it was a well deterred area for large carnivores so they would be safe in raising the soon to come hatchlings. Deadlight trotted over and nodded before bringing some more stones and placing them in a circle just in front of the thorny bushes so that it wouldn’t be seen and if a predator did come by that they would be able to defend it and the shelter from the bushes would help out with that.

The two built for a bit placing each thing with care and checking in with one another, Geode adding fresh plant life and leafage to the nest and smiled once she had finished “its perfect, we make a great team dead” she said before nuzzling Deadlight who had went and grabbed a couple more stones to add before nuzzling her back.

“Well let’s test it out shall we!” She barked before stepping inside the nest and getting cozy with Geode not too far behind her, the two fitting inside perfectly with enough room for hatchlings to frolic and sleep. Geode lifted her head and licked Deadlight’s face before moving some of the leaves around in the nest to make sure everything was perfect for the two even adding a few of her short fur like feathers in to make it more comfy.

It was all about waiting now, the arrival of small Utah raptors hatchlings would be soon and they would have their claws full but for now some rest and enjoyment of each other's company for a bit while it lasted. The new pair successfully courted for the season, Deadlight and Geode were as happy as they could be soon to be proud parents when the time came.
