Dino’s Included: Nocturne (6247)

Being small on the island wasn’t always the best thing for a dinosaur as it was easy to get stepped on or crushed and Nocturne was no stranger to this with most of the dinosaurs he came across and with that he stuck to the beaches mostly trying to steer clear of that issue. Plus it was a nice day out so it didn’t hurt to get some sun on his scales but something felt off, almost like he was being watched by a bunch of little eyes from the coral pools but he couldn’t pinpoint what was watching him. Nocturne came to a stop as he looked behind him but saw nothing before he clacked his beak and shook his head.

“I swear I heard something following me…” he clacked before leaning down and scratching the sand to uproot a crab and taking a seat down as he picked at the crab with this claws and beak before cracking its legs and claws off letting out a content sigh before hearing the sound of little pitter patters in the sand approaching him. As Nocturne looked up from his meal he spotted three little duck like dinosaurs looking up at him as they chirped and eyed the crab he had caught, he had never seen these before but they were small so he wasn’t too worried about them as he stood up clacking his beak.

The little duck-like creatures were almost like small raptors that spotted webbed feet and one out of the three had feathers while the others only had scales, they were interesting to say the least as they went by the name of Neuquenraptors. They were new to the island and had just been making their new way of life encountering the inhabitants and it seemed like Nocturne was their first oviraptor they had come across. The first one of the raptors stepped forwards towards Nocturne with curiosity, it was black and white followed by red eyes. Black patches across its body followed by large white spots that covered its scales, a skull like face marking broken up across its face. Spike-like bumps moved across its lower jaw followed by some at the end of its tail. It was much bigger then the other ones, dark colors and bright eyes watched him closely as the other two moved forwards to approach Nocturne as he leaned down to sniff the first dark colored raptors who jumped back when he got closer.

“Well aren’t you three interesting, I don’t think I’ve seen your type around” Nocturne said moving his head towards the other two who had gotten brave enough to come check him out, but it seemed like they were interested in the crab more than him. The second Neuquenraptor skipped forwards as it looked up trying to grab some meat that had fallen out of the oviraptor's beak. This one was entirely different from the first black and white one, it’s markings were complex and a ray of different colors across its tiny body with feathers that stood up on its head like a crest, this one wasn’t scaled like the others it was feathered. It had a yellow head followed by dull orange feathers down its body with almost like a large streak going down the mid section, white socks that covered its feet and went up its leg. Flaring its feathers it raised its claws showing off black talons and feathered wings , black stripes down its back.

“Aren’t you a feisty one, very colorful too” Nocturne said, clacking his beak before looking at the crab and looking back at the tiny raptors. “ Oh you three are hungry, I must’ve taken what you were trying to hunt “ he said offering the crab on the sand which the first two Neuquenraptor’s quickly dashed forwards and stole a few pieces before bringing a bit away from Nocturne who gave a chuckle. The final Neuquenraptor was the smallest of the trio spotted a row of quills down its back followed by a dull blue scale gradient down its body , a white stripe down its back and black splotches of black all around its body with more areas covered by black then the blue. White tail feathers and red markings at the end of it, the three were all different yet super unique which kept Nocturne interested in the little group of raptors.

Nocturne dropped the crab and kicked it towards the Neuquenraptor squad as they chirped and hoped over to it before starting to dig into it kicking sand everywhere they moved, they seemed to like Nocturne as after they had chowed down on the crab remains they followed him around as he lifted rocks in helping to find them more sea bugs they could scavenge from him being much bigger than them and they would chirp in excitement, when he flipped the rocks and other shells over. The oviraptor didn’t mind the new company even if they were super small and didn’t offer him much. It was nice to see something new. 

After a while the small trio of raptors decided that following the oviraptor had run its  course as they slowed down getting distracted, straying further and further from him. They had much to explore of their new found world and Nocturne was just a part of it. Looking backwards Nocturne noticed and gave off a smile before clacking his beak once more with the three responding back trying to mimic his noise. 

“Thanks thanks for the crab” one said darting past Nocturne as the two followed behind with them heading up the shoreline and Nocturne set back at the sound from them, seemed like they didn’t speak often but liked to show they were thankful in some way, it was nice running into smaller dinosaurs that weren’t after your hide for once. The oviraptor sat down as he took in the warm sun Curious about where his new found friends had come from and if he would see more of them around, only time would tell as many more little eyes watched him from a distance. It was just the beginning of these little guys popping up in places all over the island.
