The clash of jaws and thick scales ripping and tearing blood from one another as roars echoed throughout the thick forest with many Albertosaurs now entering their courtship season. The large carnivores usually dueled it out with one another to show who was the best around and their strength they brought to potential partners and how well they could provide during the nesting season, and one Alberto in particular was on the hunt for a potential partner and he had been following a scent for awhile now followed but the footprints she left behind, it was Diaval.

Ahead of Diaval a few miles in the brush dark eyes watched her surroundings as her jaws snapped shut letting out low growls. Phasma had been chased and pestered by males for the past couple

hours now and had finally found a resting spot followed by some peace and quiet. Phasma wasn’t new to the courtship season and had gone through many of them herself but usually never found a partner due to the inexperience of new and younger male Alberto’s that would find her. 

“Finally some rest from those pestering younger males, they don’t know manners at all” she grunted laying down in a dirt pile that cooled her scales due to the sun being harsh and beating on the area around her. Her tail flicked in annoyance as she smelt the air picking up on Diaval's scent as she rolled her eyes “not another one” she growled tilting her head towards where it was coming from. Diaval stopped as he sniffed the area making sure

to keep a close eye on his surroundings as he entered into the wooded area where he had tracked Phasma too, he needed to tread carefully as just because it was courtship season didn’t mean female Alberto’s weren’t dangerous and she could easily mistaken him for an intruder or food. Diaval took a step forward as he entered further into the wooded area, before landing his eyes on dark scales along with a skull-like facial appearance… it was Phasma, she had found him before he found her.

“Found what you were looking for huh big guy” Phasma said with a quick grumpy tone, as she looked Diaval up and down, he didn’t seem young like the rest of the ones she had come across, he was different which had her interested. Phasma kept her distance but lowered herself waiting for a response from him as he had seemed caught off guard by her finding him so quickly.

“I had been tracking you for a bit now” Diaval said as he shifted his weight showing off his jaws, being a large carnivore most times courtship could end in a bloody battle or it could go smoothly and it seemed like Phasma wanted to test his strength which meant that this confrontation could get bad real quick if he wasn’t careful. The two beginning to circle one another as they growled with Phasma lowering her head, she wasn’t much smaller then Him and that’s what made her dangerous.

“Oh you were tracking me huh, well tracking is easy I’m more interested in the strength you provide” she hissed through her teeth as she moved a big quicker her thick tail swaying, things were about to get tough for the two courting Alberto’s as Phasma sized up Diaval with him matching the display, he knew what he was in for and he was ready to prove himself to her.

With a swift gap closer Phasma had rushed forwards towards Diaval and the two locked into a wrestling-like stance as they reared up letting out growls and snaps from their jaws with Diaval matching the speed of Phasma who was impressed with the males speed, that was enough to match her. It was a back and forth battle with each Alberto pushing one another back, digging their claws and keeping balance with their tails.

Diaval used his larger weight to push back on Phasma as he slammed her to the ground using his jaws to grip her neck which made the female growl in pain as a small dirt cloud dusted up from the move. “Well are we done” He asked through the hold he had on her with Phasma finally giving up and sighing” I’ve seen enough, now let go of me” she hissed.

Diaval let go of Phasma as he stepped back and let her get to her feet which he was met with an annoyed growl but she wasn’t not interested and was impressed, as she looked him over once more. Strength mattered to her and he had proved that he could keep up and match her energy where most fell short during the last courtship seasons. 

“Well what are you waiting for, we must get to building a nest and picking a spot” she huffed before rubbing against his side and walking ahead, they had a lot to plan for since raising Alberto hatchlings weren’t easy and building a proper nest and picking a site was important for the success rate of rearing hatchlings. The male nodded and watched his new mate lead the way before speaking “ well I’m sure we can agree on a spot, but don’t walk ahead too far” he added before chuckling to himself.

Phasma looked back as she nodded, she was stand offish but Diaval had impressed her a fair bit so she was confident in their raising together when the time did come, but for now she would continue to test him over the next few days regardless and hoped he was prepared for that. The two continued deeper into the forest with their minds set on picking the best spot to nest with Diaval pointing out spots and Phasma looking them over but not liking them before she finally agreed to one, finding the spot was easy but building was the hard part.

“ time to build” she said looking at Diaval and giving off a smile before he nodded in agreement and joined her, the pair now on the hunt to build the perfect nest and in time they would hear the rustling and chirps of new hatchlings. The courtship was done and went well but new challenges would come for the two eventually.
