River of Ducks
Wesker, the brown and black midline utah, was far from impressed with all the festivities. Everything that was usually dark and calm was now littered with lights, colourful bows and other weird things. He often gave in to Smelt’s ideas and less than appealing adventures, but this probably took the cake as the most miserable he had felt. His sister, Fudge, had also decided to join when she overheard their planning, which soured his mood further. Not because he disliked his sister, he quite enjoyed her company, but because she had, albeit unintentional, ruined his plans to turn this stupid game night into a date. Smelt was of course delighted that Fudge wanted to join, and he didn't want to ruin her fun, so he just did not bother arguing about it or convincing Fudge to not join. At least the two of them would have fun, he kept telling himself.
The three utahs entered the large museum, where all of these events and activities were held for the season, and Smelt squealed in excitement as she saw all the colourful and fun decorations everywhere. She saw a large sign pointing towards the aerospace part of the museum and gasped loudly.
”Wesker, we HAVE to go! There are games! Maybe we can win some prizes?” She chirped, and Fudge was nodding in agreement.
”Yeah, come on my dear brother! It would be so fun!” She chimed in to support her friend’s wishes, especially since she herself was also curious about these strange games.
Wesker sighed and forced a smile before reluctantly repying. ”Fine, we can go.”
Fudge jumped in excitement and almost howled, then her sharp, green eyes turned towards what looked like a festival stand and she rushed off ahead of her friend and brother.
Smelt giggled as her friend rushed off and then turned toward Wesker, pushing her crest feathers slightly forward in excitement. When his red eyes met her yellow ones, she shyly lowered her feathers again, almost as if she was blushing.
”What is it?” Wesker asked with a gently chuckle.
”Oh it’s nothing. I am just.. Very happy you agreed to come here. I’m sorry I told Fudge, I was just so excited..” she sheepishly replied.
”It’s okay, I am not mad. We should join her before she gets tired of that stall and moves on, though.” He replied, which made Smelt cheer up again.
As the utah couple grouped up with Fudge again, she skipped in excitement.
”Hey look, there are yellow ducks!” She exclaimed and pointed towards a makeshift pool with some numbered rubber ducks bobbing around. ”I wonder what this game is, shall we ask?”
”Yeah let’s go ask, I wanna know too!” Smelt happily replied as she dragged her friend to the stall owner, with Wesker following close behind.
”Hey there, may we ask what the goal of this game is?” Wesker asked, as he gained the attention of the white, spotty oviraptor running the stall.
”Why of course! The goal here is really simple, all you have to do is catch one of these little fellas with this stick!” He started and held up a stick with twine hanging from it, and into the twine something shiny was glued on. ”These little bits are magnetic, and allow you to attach them to metal, which just so happens to be embedded in the backs of these rubber ducks. Convenient, don’t you think?”
Smelt nodded eagerly as the oviraptor explained, and she was preparing herself to get started as soon as she was given the go ahead. Fudge was equally as excited and could barely stand still, she was looking forward to winning something, perhaps a little trinket of sorts, that she could bring back home to her partners as a souvenir, or maybe even to convince them to come back here with her before the carnival was over. Wesker seemed a bit more sceptical, however.
”So you’re saying no matter which duck we catch, we will gain a reward?” He said, with his scepticism being very prominent, but the white, spotty oviraptor did not seem deterred in the slightest.
”That is correct, only one of them has the grand prize of course, but all of them grant at least one little thing to remember us by!” He happily explained.
Wesker still was not convinced it was worth his time, but for Smelt, he was willing to participate at least once, so he stood behind his sister in line.
First in line was, of course, Smelt. She readied herself, magnet stick in mouth, and wagged her tail slowly in anticipation. She looked between the rubber ducks, trying to decide which one to go for, and she locked her eyes on one with a classic top hat that she proceeded to swiftly fish up with little trouble.
“Well done, dear participant! Would you like to reveal your prize now or after your whole group has done their turns?” the excited Oviraptor asked her.
“I can wait! Come on Fudge, it's your turn!” Smelt happily chirped as she gently pushed her friend forward.
Fudge took the stick from Smelt and unlike her, she did not bear a lot of thought into which duck she chose. She just fished up the very first one she laid eyes upon and grabbed it off of the stick to hand it over to her less than optimistic brother. She observed her catch carefully with her light green eyes and smiled a little as she looked at it, and she giggled a bit when looking over at Smelt who was almost vibrating in the spot in anticipation for Wesker to fish up his own duck.
Wesker sighed before he took his eyes away from his girlfriend and sister. The ducks were gently following the current. So stupid.. So incredibly stupid. He aimed and missed the very first time, which surprisingly annoyed him. He didn’t know why he got annoyed, seeing as he didn’t even care about these stupid games, but with a heavy huff he managed to regain his focus and ended up catching a duck. An incredibly stupid one at that, with a party hat on it. Wicked scoffed at it before Smelt rushed up to his face to look at his catch.
“It is SO cute!” she exclaimed, and then she snatched it from him, along with Fudge’s duck, and brought them all to the spotted oviraptor.
“Okay, I wanna know if we won anything fun now!” she said excitedly, almost squealing.
The cheery oviraptor smiled as he accepted the ducks to look at their tags. He nodded to himself for a bit.
“Yes, this is very good..” he quietly mumbled to himself as he walked off, presumably to fetch their prizes.
It did not take the quilled oviraptor long before he returned, and with him he was hauling a large, black plastic bag. Fudge and Smelt both dropped their jaws as they saw it, while Wesker seemed less impressed. Though he was also curious about the contents, seeing how big it was.
“Congratulations, my dark fella! Your duck brought home the grand prize of 30 super soft plushies of various designs, all found within this very bag!” the oviraptor happily exclaimed.
“Oh my! That’s amazing brother, isn’t it? Perfect for your boring home!” Fudge cackled to her less than amused brother.
“Haha, very funny Fudge.” he huffed. “It’s fine, Smelt can have them.”
“I can!? You’re the best!” Smelt happily chirped as she hugged Wesker before remembering that Fudge and herself also had won something, allegedly.
“Oh! What did we get?” she asked as she turned to the oviraptor once more.
“Both of you won our uniquely designed keychains! Considering we don’t have pockets or kays, I’m unsure what they can be used for, but they serve as a lovely little trinket, don’t you think?” the oviraptor smiled as he handed the girls one keychain each.
“Thank you, spotty guy!” Smelt replied happily.
“Thank you very much.” Fudge also said with a smile.
“You are very welcome, and if you happen to come around again, don’t be afraid to call me by my name! I am Lilla Gubben. Now take care and have a lovely festival!” the spotted oviraptor said as he waved, before turning to the next participants in the line.
“Are you satisfied now?” Wesker asked Smelt, who eagerly nodded as best as she could while pulling the large bag of plushies.
“I agree with Fudge that these would fit well in your home though.” She just barely managed to mumble out from the plastic.
“Yeah sure, why not..” Wesker sighed. He knew there was no point trying to argue.
“Haha, about time you get some fun stuff in there, everything is so dull and dirty!” Fudge grinned, knowing it would piss her brother off.
“Good thing it’s my home and not yours then.” he said as he rolled his eyes.
Smelt just snickered with a wide smile on her face. What a good day this had been.
I apologise for the inconsistent formatting, I am too lazy to fix it, been writing on this thing for over a month between my phone, ipad and pc xD
