The carnival was in full swing, adding a touch of colour and joy to the rather gloomy winter season on the islands. The ubiquitous red flags and colourful banners inviting eager patricipants to various carnival-related events made Appy truly excited. The female often landed somewhere near the most interesting decorations, watching the busy dinosaurs at work with delight. Sometimes, when she chose to make her observations late in the evening, in addition to the busy reptiles, she could also see a shower of meteorites streaking across the sky like glowing arrows. The carnival had a lot of charm.
The event not only provided her with visual satisfaction, but also many interesting tasks that she could perform. She had already taken part in several games on many occasions - obstacle races, searching for various objects, playing hide and seek - for which she had already won attractive prizes. She also planned to visit the Natural History Museum in the near future, where she could show off her talents - a truly tempting prospect for her.
But today, her mind was preoccupied with completely different thoughts.
Appy heard a rumour as she flew over two cryos chatting to each other. Apparently, a new, unexpected guest had appeared on the islands - an unusual-looking female therizinosaurus, with a head adorned with a plume of dark feathers and markings on her chest that emitted a strange orange glow. This alone was intriguing enough, but the rumour contained something else - a challenge.
Apparently, the unknown female had a strong desire to try all the delicacies that the Kiama Islands had to offer, but she did not know where to find the best quality ingredients. That is why Flambé (for that was apparently her name) was willing to reward anyone who would help her in her endeavours and support her in her mission to obtain the most delicious food.
Appy couldn't pretend for a moment that this task wasn't incredibly interesting to her. After all, who had a better chance of finding the right ingredients than an experienced flyer? The entire archipelago was within her reach. The female smiled to herself, thinking about her undoubted advantage.
According to the information she had managed to obtain, Flambé was currently residing temporarily near the museum, waiting there for helpful daredevils. Appy definitely did not intend to keep her waiting much longer - the young female planned to go there as soon as she found a welcome gift for the famous cook.
Tapejara perched on one of the nearby broken lampposts, wanting to rest before her journey. What could she take with her as a gift? From what she knew, therizinosaurus were herbivores, so a whole large group of products was immediately ruled out. What fruits could she easily obtain that would satisfy the picky Flambé? The height of winter, which had frozen the island in its grip, somewhat limited her choices. Most fruits, if available at all, grew in the warmer locations of the archipelago - places that could take up to several hours to fly to. Appy scratched her beak with her tiny claws, trying to stimulate herself to think intensely.
In her imagination, she scanned the landscape of the islands, thoroughly combing through all the locations she had explored so far. After a moment of intense brainstorming, one place came to mind - a single, solitary lychee tree hidden in a nearby forest. Maybe some of the fruit had already grown?
Appy took to the air with a joyful squeak, diving down sharply and gaining momentum. Just a few minutes of flight and she would have her gift!
Her excitement prevented her from focusing on anything else – she no longer even noticed the beautiful carnival decorations that adorned the first part of her journey. She soared through the sky at a surprisingly high speed, more like one of the meteorites that had recently been appearing frequently in the sky than a flying reptile. At the last moment, just as she was about to leave the city, she lowered her flight abruptly and grabbed one of the larger flags with her beak, tearing it off – she had to have something to pack her lychees in.
After a short flight, the female landed on a branch of the desired tree, dynamically picking fruit from it and stuffing it into her improvised bag. Soon, the red and white fabric was almost bursting at the seams, bending under the weight of the juicy treats. The way back would definitely be more tiring!

The excited female flew through one of the broken windows into the museum. She immediately recognised Flambé, standing in the middle of a huge pile of various ingredients. She greeted her briefly, wanting to explain her sudden arrival, but it wasn't necessary - the therizinosaur welcomed Appy like an old friend, happily looking at the bag filled to the brim with fruit.
Appy landed with difficulty on a nearby counter, narrowly avoiding a crash. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she released the scraps of fabric from her claws, which immediately unfolded to reveal the riches they had been hiding.
Flambé jumped for joy at the sight, running towards her new companion as fast as she could.
‘Lychee! How did you know? That's exactly what I need for my next dish!’
Appy proudly puffed out her chest, eagerly accepting the praise. She used her wing to move the fruit closer to the other female, much to Flambé's undisguised excitement.
She had definitely managed to impress the unusual newcomer!
