[Gift] Seasonal | Don't fall | Sunset Ridge

To be at the top was just a feeling that you could not compare to anything else. On top of a mountain or a skyscraper. It didn’t really matter. The feeling of the wind was different. The feeling you got in the pit of your stomach as you looked down upon the earth so far below, incomparable. At least that’s what Lumier thought. That’s why he had climbed the mountain. To feel the feeling. The sight before him was a bonus.

“This is wonderful.” The Bio para yelled out. It echoed into the sky. Barely audible as it bounced around on anything.

“It really is a sight!” The second para added. She didn’t shout as loud as Lumier did. But her voice still managed to carry an echo around the open space.

“Aren’t you all just a.. Tiny bit close to the edge?” Sias said, his voice was low and shaking. He had been happy most of the climb. Felt real proud, until they got to the top. He suddenly didn’t want anything to do with the edge of the mountain side. “It’s just. You know. Accidents. They happen all the time. And you both are really close to the edge.”

Lumier looked back at the Cryo. They weren’t too close to the edge really. But he seemed to be really shaken up about how they were standing.

“You’re right. And we still have a long way to go.” He pointed his hor towards the mountain ridge. It was a fairly long ridge. It had a few dips and rises but most of it was at the same height as they were now. The idea was that the three of them would cross over and then separate at the base of the other side. Seeing how it typically was safer passing the ridge with at least a few companions. This wasn’t Lumier’s first climb of this mountain ridge so he acted as a sort of guide for them.

“Perhaps we should rest here a bit beforehand.” Emmeline suggested, seeing how Sias the cryo barely seemed able to stand on his feet. “Far away from the edge of course.” She added with a nod.

“That sounds like a wonderful idea.” Lumier added as he moved closer into the center of the resting area. It had been made flat by all the previous dinosaurs that ventured up from the ground and laid down to watch the sights. There must have been thousands and thousands that had gotten all the way up the mountain.

“Do you think everyone before us got to see this magical view?” Emmeline said. Sias peeked out from their bodies to catch a glimpse at the still rising sun. They had gone early in the morning so they would have a lot of time during the day to cross the ridge. There still wouldn’t be enough time of the day to cross the entire ridge and they would have to rest along the ridge. But thanks to all the dinosaurs that walked this same route before it was rather easy to find a safe and sound resting place for one night.

“I just know the last time I was here I stayed up here for almost an entire week. The sunsets are pure magic. And somehow they never become dull.” Even Sias seemed a tiny bit amazed at this. Perhaps seeing a sunset from this height would somehow change his perspective. Or perhaps the darkness would make the Cryo even more afraid instead. “I think most dinosaurs before us have been as amazed by the view as we have been. I doubt this view ever looks bad.”

“Perhaps when it’s raining.” Sias added. Immediately regretting his decision to pipe up as he now couldn’t stop worrying that it was going to rain, despite Lumier’s persistence that there wasn’t a single cloud up in the sky and they would most likely have a wonderful and dry trip along the mountain range.

Soon Lumier rose from his sitting place, followed by both Emmeline and Sias.

“It is time for us to keep going. Now the path may look wide but it is better for us all if we keep in a line and don’t walk beside each other.” He looked back at the other Para and she looked meaningfully down on the Cryo, as if they both understood what he was going to say next and agreeing on it without exchanging words. “I think it is best if you Sias walk between me and Emmeline. Big, small, big. It’s safest for you. We will make sure to keep a certain amount of distance between us. Don’t worry.”

Sias pondered the idea for a bit. He didn’t question the logic, but he wanted it to seem like he didn’t think about only his safety and actually cared for his companions on this trip.

“If that is the best strategy then I am happy with it.” Sias eventually said as he nodded in agreement. Maybe a bit too relieved. Emmeline smirked when he couldn’t see it.

They travelled slowly, knowing they would have to stay on the mountain ridge anyway. Making their way towards one of the dips before settling down to the sight of the sunsetting from a mountain range.
