Haoran | Dillyweed

322 Words

Haoran panicked as the fire engulfed the floor to his left side. He didn’t know what he needed to do. The heat was scary, the bright flames that blinded him was scary. The way the smoke clogged up his airways. Everything was scary. There was nothing he could do.

“HELP!” He yelled. There were tears on his face as he tried to calm down. “Is anyone there? I need help.” He didn’t know what he should do. His parents had never taught him what to do in case of a fire. They hadn’t given him a guide on how to get away from flames. Of course he understood that he had to run. But what way was the best way to run? There were flames everywhere.

Haoran was trying his best not to panic, but it was hard. He was already panicking. And it didn’t help that he knew he shouldn’t panic because trying to calm himself down was somehow even worse than just letting the panic take over.

As he attempted to run away from the roaring wall of flame that had gotten a boost from a particularly rough gust of wind he attempted to once again yell over the fire. But before the fire could drown his voice he had tripped himself on a root. He let out a big yelp as he hit the ground. He let his feet try to grasp the ground as he wiggled around the ground in an attempt to quickly get himself up on his feet. It felt as if the fire was getting closer faster just because he panicked.

Finally he got his feet under him and managed to stand up. He had gotten himself disorganised and the panic didn’t help him at all. Which way was he running? Which way was he supposed to run? There wasn’t a good answer to any of these questions anywhere. Why wouldn’t the answer just appear?

Demon | AberrantKapro

The gray and black ovi, Demon, stretched up as she heard a call for help not too far away from her. She tried to locate where the voice came from, while also avoiding the flames beside her. She was very well composed during stressful situations, she had been taught early to stay calm and try to figure out a solution rather than panic, and her nerves of steel were surely coming in handy right now. She jumped up on a rock to scout her surroundings better, so she could hopefully spot some survivors she could help, along with finding the source of the screams.

“Over here!” Demon yelled as she spotted someone, another ovi. A dark one with a white, skull looking mask. He seemed to be in trouble, she had to act fast. “I will come to you, stay still!”

Demon jumped down and rushed over to the spiked ovi’s position, as she arrived, he had just managed to get up on his feet. With a quick check, Demon saw that he was sound and had no immediate injuries that would cause any delays. She was relieved that this was the case, as she was not confident she would have been able to carry anyone while running.

“Follow me, I know the way out.” Demon assured the stranger. “We will have time for formalities later, when we are safe.”

The agile female started running, making sure that the dark ovi was keeping up, just as she spotted yet another dino dangerously close to the flames. A pale yellow and green feathered euoplo. She didn’t know them, but had seen them around before.

“Hey you, follow us! We’re heading to safety!” she yelled, hoping that the second stranger would catch up to them, despite their much shorter legs.

Citrus | Zhetan

He wasn’t sure where the fire had come from, it was not a common – or natural – occurrence in Atlantis. Very seldom did one of the old electrical wires ignite anything in the very humid dome. But Citrus wasn’t much bothered or scared, keeping level headed in high risk situations was pretty much his whole job. Therefore he had calmly, but still efficiently, started to evaluate anyone still in the building, with his low bass voice he had directed the traffic out of the building, making sure none of the smaller oviraptors were trampled by bigger dinos in the rush to get out.
Single files people, calm and collected” he directed, holding out his clubbed tail to stop a much larger iguanodon as they were visibly panicked and almost flattened an oviraptor that was between them and the exit.
If no one panics you’ll all get out safely” he assured them.
When the crowd was outside he looked around. He could hear a panicked voice further in and set out to go collect whoever it may be to get them to safety. The fire had spread quite a lot during the time it had taken him to clear others out of the place, so going back was more difficult than he had anticipated, and hoped it would be. Nevertheless, protecting civilians was his job after all, and he would not live not having done everything he could to save everyone.
What met him as the floorplan opened up more was two oviraptors, one seemed to have taken charge of the situation and immediately involved him when she spotted him.
Yeah I’m coming from the entrance!” he answered, rushing to get to the two smaller dinosaurs.
But I think it is too risky to go back the same way” The fire had cut off the access when a burning beam had fallen behind him on the way back here, and the sound of something crumbling could be heard, as if to reinforce his words.
Back up!” he ordered, walking up to the wall, trying his hardest to avoid the flames. “And be ready to run” he added as he winded his tail back, readying for a swing. With a heavy thud the weakening outer wall cracked, but still held. Without wasting any more time he whacked the wall again.
Now Quick!” He shouted as the wall gave in and caved under the blow, letting the small agile oviraptors escape. He ran after them, but he wasn’t as quick and debris tumbled over his back painfully.
The darker ovi collapsed to the ground when they were finally outside and safe, several dinosaurs on the outside already working on trying to contain, and stop, the spread of the fire. The grey oviraptor came up to Citrus to assess his back, and quickly brush off any embers from the debris. Now that they were outside she seemed familiar, but he had never spoken to her. The little black Ovi on the ground was not familiar to him.
Everyone okay?” he finally asked, looking pointedly at the black male with the skull-like mask first, he seemed to be the one most affected by what had happened.
