Seasonal | Don't fall | Three makes the trip easier
All three of the Carnos had met at the base of the mountain for the first time. It hadn’t been planned, rather it had been an accident that all three of them stood before each other. At first they had simply stared at each other. None of them breaking eye contact. Sizing up the Carno in front of each other. Waiting for any of them to make a move that could be considered suspicious.
In the end all of them collectively decided to trust one another. Deciding to climb the mountain together to see its sights.
“My name is Armania.” The grey and purple Carno was the first to introduce herself after they had begun the climb.
“Agatha.” The more green Carno added with a slight tip of her head in both of their directions.
“And I am Drift.” The last Carno added, a carno that not only stood out in its more contrasting colour scheme but also in the way its bioluminous marking shone in spite of the sun's strong light.
They could all easily step over things but given their size the climb was slow. They had only made it up one third of the mountain when they took their first break. Laying down and stretching out their legs on a cliffside as they watched the sights before them.
“Wow, we’re already so high up.” Armania swept her head around to be able to take in the sight. It was a forest down there, and most of the trees had either lost their leaves or had a beautiful, almost golden orange colouring that shifted between lighter and darker tones. It looked like a sea of sunshine below them as the sun hit the treetops just the right way and bounced up towards them.
“Imagine what it will look like from the top.” Drift added with a nod, she too couldn’t take her eyes off the sight before them as Agatha agreed.
They stayed at the flat edge just a tiny bit longer than they intended to do and now had to hurry quite a bit to reach the top before the sun had begun to descend again. Neither of the three Carnos wanted to spend their night on top of the mountain after nightfall. Perhaps if they at the very least managed to reach back down the first cliff outpost where they had been resting they could consider sleeping through the darkness there.
They still had to stop at the halfway point. Sure they took big steps but they were heavy dinosaurs all around who needed a lot of oxygen which the higher latitude slowly started depriving them of. Their breaks kept their length as they watched out over the side of the mountain. It was amazing how the colourful trees somehow became more like a sea at this height. The small holes in the canopies that you could see at the first resting stops had practically disappeared for them and instead all the colours blended beautifully into each other. Making the tree tops seem like a blanket covering the ground.
They kept going higher. What was the point of stopping halfway to the top when every time they looked down on the forest below it just became more and more beautiful. The view they would have at the top seemed unthinkable.
“I have never climbed a mountain quite like this.” Armania said between breaths. It felt as if they had just barely started from their last resting spot and they were already this out of breath.
“Yhea, I knew it would be hard..” Drift didn’t finish the sentence.
“I have climbed a bit before.” Agatha added, she was at the top of the group. Clearly having a bit more experience than they did in the vertical climb. “But this one is definitely the highest one I’ve attempted as well.” She looked back to make sure that they both were behind her and so that neither Armania or Drift got too far behind.
“It really is the perfect time to climb. Look at the trees.” Drift's breath was heavy and fast but so was Armanias. Even Agatha who had more experience than them had a slight heavy feeling to her breaths.
They kept going, trying their best to only rest when they had a fourth left of the climb but eventually they made it to the top. The sun had already begun to descend on the sky.
“I really hoped we would make it up here before the sun began to go down.” Drift sighed as she sat down on top of the mountain, still with a clear view of the beauty beneath them.
“Same. But look at that.” Armenia added as the sun decent had begun to colour the sky in a fiery yellow and orange, almost blending into the treetops that emulated the same saturated colour.
“Wow.” All three of them said together.
“Man, it was absolutely worth it.” Drift said. Changing her tone slightly as the sight filled their view. There would still, at least, be a few hours before the sun set completely so they could make it down.
“Think positively,” Agatha said with a slight smirk. “At least the descent is the fastest part.”
