[Trade] [Trade] [Foraging] Rivers Wonders
“You have to believe me!” Miranda said in a begging tone. “I know what I heard, At the bottom of the river, within the rocks, grows a grass so green and lush!”
“That sounds utterly foolish and you know that! Water is for the aquatics, we are not aquatics.” Esmond insisted while shaking his head, in his belief grass and other goods grew only above water.
“Okay but come with me at least?” Miranda asked before slowly turning, knowing a river going through the jungle wasn’t too far away from them.
Esmond let out a soft sigh before gently nodding his head. “Fiiine but we got to keep eyes out for carnivores.”
“I promise!” Miranda promised, knowing fully well that the jungle was filled with those beasts so you should never let your guard down for too long.
After a short walk they both stood by the waters edge, watching as the water in the river gently rushed past them, occasional leaves or twigs being pulled with the water.
“You sure you wanna step out there?” Esmond asked Miranda as he gave her an uncertain look.
“Point of no return.” She ensured him while staring at her own reflection or thats at least what it looked like to Esmond but Miranda had already seen small signs of plants in the depths of the water.
“Well It’s not really a point of-” Esmond didn’t even get to finish his sentence before Miranda started marching into the lake and he had to take a few steps to the side to not be splashed by the water made of the Shuno. “Watch iiiit.” He let out a soft snarl, he had never been a fan of the water or well.. once was.
“Sorryyy! Come on, help me look!” Miranda was in full search and belly deep in the river however due to her size she didn’t seem bothered by the pull of the rivers water whatsoever.
Esmond turned his gaze down to look at the water flowing right in front of his feet, he could easily see the ground beneath the surface, the water here would only go to around his knees but it took him a good while before he gently and very carefully stepped into the water. While he didn’t believe in the wonders of the ‘lush grass beneath the surface’ he did want to support Miranda in her newest obsession and with that started to stick his face underwater, just enough to start moving some rocks in search.
Miranda was scouting through the water, taking her steps carefully and occasionally pushing a rock or two with her feet in hopes of ‘treasure’.
“I found something!” Miranda suddenly shouted before popping her head and long neck into the depths of the water with no hesitation and with a single pull. “Look at it!” Is what she was trying to say but with her mouth full of some long, lumpy, brown-ish kelp of sort, words weren’t mouthed that correctly.
Esmond stood watching his friend with a rather, unimpressed expression, knowing fully well that he would be forced to try it eventually. “..Yaaay”
Miranda flung the kelp towards Esmond before starting to scout for more things at the bottom. “Throw It to the side, will ya?” She asked but didn’t really await his reply before popping her head back under the water.
Esmond took two small careful steps to reach the floating kelp, gently nudging it closer to the waters edge. “Just the smell..” He shook his head.
Miranda lifted her head out of the water and was already, very satisfied, munching down on some long strings of river grass. “Oh wooow~” She hummed gently. “You must try this!” Miranda said before nodding her head at Esmond cause she had noticed that he was slowly shaking his head when she made the suggestion.
“Yes, you do.” She insisted.
“Riiight.” Esmond said in a not so believable tone.
Miranda grabbed some more of the river grass so Esmond could get some before starting to waddle out of the river, careful not to slip on the slippery rocks.
Esmond noticed when Miranda started to head towards shore and took this as his green card to get the flip out of the water as well and so he did, with a lesser graceful movement due to him rushing and slipping slightly on a rock before stepping fully out of the river.
“Are you sure this is safe to eat?” Esmond asked while giving the brown kelp on the grass a little kick.
“Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.” Miranda asked before dropping some of the river grass down for Esmond to taste.
Being a good friend and wanting to support Miranda Esmond felt he had to at least give the river grass a small taste test and it was so.. wet and oddly slippery.. but- not too bad. To Esmonds surprise, it was actually really good. “Okay- You can’t tell anyone but.. I have to admit-” Esmond was cut off when Miranda let out a gentle laugh and moved her leg to gently push Esmond. “I told you! Oh my, Imagine losing out on this!” She sounded so proud of her newest treasure.
“Okay but let’s be honest, It’s not the first time you’ve gotten a craz-.. gotten a wild idea.” Esmond explained by munching on some more of the river grass.
Miranda gave a gentle shrug but kept her satisfied smile. “Yeah yeah yeaaah.” She said before leaning down to grab the kelp and upon grabbing the kelp, a loud sound of a pop filled the air and Miranda stood frozen in her spot even Esmond had stopped his chewing and stood silently watching Mirandas horrified expression as she slowly opens her jaws to let the brown kelp slide out of her mouth before slowly starting to turn back to the river only to aggressively start to flush her mouth.
It took Esmond a second before noticing what happened before he burst out laughing. “So not everything is edible, huh?” Almost snorting a laugh, he shook his head.
Miranda rolled her eyes at him when she was done flushing her mouth. “Just eat the river grass, you unripe pumpkin.” She teased.
“I will, you fluffy palm tree.” Esmond returned the tease before continuing to eat the river grass that Miranda had pulled out of the river.
“Next time, you’re the one who fetches it.” Miranda said while grabbing some of the river grass, completely calm and collected, knowing exactly what she just said but the horror in Esmonds face as he stared right at her with an open jaw. “...huh?”
“Im kidding! You should’ve seen your face!” Miranda burst out laughing as she shook her head at him. “Gosh! I know you won’t.” Her tone got more calm and sincere in the end of her sentence. Esmond gave an uncertain nod before lowering his head to flick the last of the brown kelp into the water, figuring just cause they didn’t like it, maybe it was more tailored to the aquatic species.
Miranda bowed down and grabbed the last piece of the river grass while nodding her head satisfied. “Best breakfast in a long while.”
Miranda have heard word about delicious things growing in between the rocks under the rivers surface and have managed to convince Esmond to come along and look for it decpite his dislike of the waters.
