Volatile Pachy

The two well acquainted iguanodons were somewhat happily stationed as vault guards for the day, with some of the euoplos they had gotten closer to during their work in the armoury patrolling the corridors. This was so much better than working with inspecting and polishing armour if you asked the both of them, but Marble, especially, would be very vocal about it.

Koi would occasionally walk past them to check up and see if they had heard anything, but so far, so good. Time went by rather slowly just standing around, while it was of course preferred that the day was eventless, it did make things much more boring, and seeing as they already talked daily, there wasn’t much to catch up on either for the iguanodon duo.
“So, is this the freedom you wanted from the armoury?” Gaol chuckled as he looked over at Marble, who was practically shaking from being restless. He wanted active work, where he could use his body and strength. Though technically guarding a vault wasn’t much different from guarding prison cells, it did involve a lot less walking, as there was just a singular door.
“You better watch your tongue or I will tackle you, you know I’m capable.” the green tabby snorted back at his quilled friend, who was even more amused by his response.
“Oh you’re capable alright. The question is, would you risk your job just to get back at me?” Gaol smirked, much to Marble’s frustration.

In the middle of their conversation, their acquaintance Koi would come by yet again.
“No sightings, I will assume?” the piebald euoplo asked, with a somewhat tired tone. He had been up for most of the day, or whatever the time it actually was on the surface, everything was artificial down here.
“Nothing yet, fortunately.” Marble responded, to get his attention away from Gaol who knew just where to poke to make him frustrated.
“What about you, have you seen anyone?” Gaol added, to take part in the conversation.
Koi shook his head. “So far, so good.” he replied with a gentle smile on his face, followed by a deep sigh.
“I shall get moving and catch up with Salmiakki and Humla, to see if they have any news. I will check back in here a little bit later.” Koi said as he started to waddle off towards the patrol route of his friends and colleagues.
“Take care, don’t do anything stupid.” Marble responded as he waved gently with one of his feet.
“Don’t get eaten!” Gaol snickered, and a little chuckled could be heard from Koi as he walked off

While walking among the overgrown and worn down corridors of Atlantis, Koi kept his eyes peeled. He couldn’t let his guard down just because he was on his way to brief with his colleagues, after all, but everything seemed peaceful. For now.
Just as Koi rounded the corner and saw Humla and Salmiakki, something quickly ran past in between them. All three of them noticed, and exchanging nods, they started to pursue whatever it was that ran past them, all whole honking to alert other nearby guards and patrollers so they could possibly help arrest whoever had intruded.
Koi was in the lead during the pursuit, but Salmiakki quickly caught up, and not long after Humla was also there.
“Did you have time to see what it was?” Salmiakki huffed as the three living tanks galopped down the hallways.
“No, did you?” Koi replied, somewhat short of breath.
“Unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to see, it was way too fast!” Humla exclaimed.
Luckily, it seemed like whoever they were chasing was heading back around and towards where Gaol and Marble were stationed, which was the perfect scenario to get them wrangled and locked up for causing a disturbance.
“Let’s steer them towards the vault!” Koi ordered, and his colleagues both nodded. They understood his plan without him having to explain it to them, a perk of working together for long, supposedly.

Suddenly, the two iguanodons heard the blaring honks of Koi as they approached in their pursuit. They quickly looked at each other before nodding and getting ready to scratch, or worst case fight, whoever was approaching. Rounding the corner was a smaller sized dinosaur, sprinting quickly on two legs. Without hesitating, the intruder ran straight forward and towards Marble, almost as if it was a living homing missile, it was a pachy. An angry one, at that.
Marbe just barely managed to dodge the charge, an impact from a pachy skull could have messed him up pretty badly if aimed correctly, despite his size. The brown, laced pachy quickly turned around, intending to initiate yet another charge towards the guards, but before she had a chance to go to attack she was smacked in the side by Gaol’s thick, sturdy tail, and he was almost as quick to get on top on the pachy and pinning her to the ground, careful about how he distributed his weight as to not hurt the much smaller dinosaur.
Just as Gaol had pinned the pachy down, the euoplo trio rounded the corner.
“My plan worked!” Koi celebrated, with Humla and Salmiakki cheering behind him. “Well done!”
“I can’t say I worked hard for it, she charged right at us.” Gaol said as he looked down at the flailing pachy who was now attempting to bite his tick skin, but it wasn’t very effective.
“Let me go! You’re all ruining my homeland!” the pachy snarled at the Atlanteans. “I will NOT give up until you all are gone!”
“Behave, we will not hurt you unless we have to.” Marble sighed as he looked down at the enraged dinosaur.
He did feel a little bad for the islanders, but in the end, they needed a new home now too. The dome wouldn’t hold out for much longer, they all feared.
Koi walked over to Gaol and the resisting pachy. “Will you come along nicely?” he asked her.
“Never.” the pachy angrily hissed.
“As you wish.” Koi calmly responded before smacking her domed head with his tail club, temporarily knocking her out.

The group of Atlanteans sighed. As boring as it was to just stand and walk around, they were all glad they didn’t have to deal with this all day.
