Starlight Adventure

The sun was blazing through the trees, through the glimmering crevasses between leaves. It was becoming high noon and Starlight was going through the woods observing each of the plants. One of the flowers hissed at her as she passed and she growled at it making it cower back, as if it were scared of her. Her feathers protect her from the wide variety of plant poisons and thorns. She made it into a clearing, lowering her head to take a sniff of the ground, and she noticed that this place was oddly weird, but she persisted onward as she looked around, creeping forward quietly. She stopped when she noticed a game trail and slowly crouched to smell it, curious of the new but many different scents. She stopped for a moment before she decided to follow the path and the footprints with some seeds sprinkling the ground. She decided to follow the footsteps to see a dome at the end of the path. She stopped and tilted her head at it, seeing its sage color. She walked up to it cautiously as she went inside, she looked around seeing some abandoned buildings. It looked like the place was kept in shape and she was not understanding how it looked so oddly kept right now, because humans have been gone for quite a long time now. She starts getting suspicious about this place, especially as she saw what looked like to be banners of a shrub and thorns. She looked around the place, rather closely to study all the finer details of what she was witnessing , quiet in her endeavors so she wouldn't get caught as she was smelling around. She was wondering what this place was as she walked around. She saw a garden with several varieties of flowers, most notably were the roses that had nasty looking thorns. She frowned when she saw the plants that had growled at her earlier, which caused a rather disappointed and annoyed feeling to arise. She was about to come out of her hiding spot to view the garden more closely, but stopped moving as she heard footsteps, echoing as they approached. She rushed back into hiding inside the shadows when she saw two dinosaurs with plated amor on their bodies. She figured they were guards of this massive place. She noticed they were of the same size as her and she figured that she could continue to stay hidden as she'd never seen them before. Sure she had seen the other dinosaurs before, but when she had to take one down a while back, she didn't know if she'd ever find them again. She decided to listen to their conversation about the queen's plans about spreading the odd little seeds of those incredibly annoying plants. She frowned as she learned of the plans, and she wanted to know what they were talking about. She slowly turned her head and looked at the plants, staying in the shadows and following them to see where they were going. She didn't notice the little creatures who were watching her every miniscule move. She has never seen those odd little critters before. As she followed the dinosaurs, she saw them stop and bow low to a dinosaur that was the same species as those guards. She had a rather pretty light blue-grey body with a vibrant blue face and tip of her tail. She was amazed at how beautiful she was. She saw the little things on her and she didn't know what they were. She assumed that the female dinosaur was their leader when she heard, “You’re majesty.” The queen looked at them and she decided to ask, “Guards, is there anything new going on? I'm getting rather curious on how my plan is coming along.” One of the guards stood up, “Everything is going according to plan, your Highness, we just need more people to help us spread them faster.” The queen nodded and she turned around to lead the way out with the guards walking directly on either side of her. Starlight followed but she kept her distance, so as to not blow her cover, creeping forward as silently as possible, because she felt if she grabbed their attention, it would be bad. She wanted to make sure she is not in danger of the potential threat in front of her. She wanted no part of what was happening if she could help it, but the curiosity in her always seemed to win out. She followed the guards who followed their ruler, barely managing to keep up with them and keep silent. She stopped when she got to the edge of her hiding spot, which was the treeline. She saw it was still daytime, roughly mid-day, but decided she still needed to stay away from enemy eyes. As she let out a quiet sigh, she stood up from her once crouching form as soon as they started walking. She figured she would have to wait until nightfall to move around. For now, she bidded her time in that dark patch. She snapped her jaws down on a nice and juicy overfed rat that she had found scurrying around in the dark place, thinking that they were safe from lurking predators. She ended up killing three more of the rats, mainly so she can have a full stomach. She started to think about what had just happened as she ate one rat at the time. She quickly got full, unaware that the little animals were roaming around in the trees, lurking around and above her without knowing she was there. She took a nap, laying down in the comfiest spot she could, while waiting for nightfall. As she dozed, more of those dinosaurs had talked of their plans, unaware of the unwitting spy in their midst. They were talking with each other about fixing the remaining buildings, of spreading the seeds out and about as the sun started settling itself down to let the moon rise. After a while, they decided to turn in for the night, their plans on pause as tiredness lured them into their awaiting nests. Starlight woke up not long after everyone had gone to bed for the night, stomach growling with an angry hunger, a yawn bubbling up as she got up to hunt. She caught a few more rats to fill it back up, crunching as quietly as she could on the morsels of meat. After eating, she quickly got up from her position and headed towards the edge of her hiding spot, wary as she peaked around the brush to see if the coast was clear. She noticed that it was nighttime, but the moon was a beautiful shade of blue that night. It was also a little strange seeing the moon glow a pale blue. Starlight felt rather thirsty, since she hadn't drank since the beginning of this little adventure of hers. She made her way over to the pond, water rippling in the pale moonlight, reflecting the moon in each tiny lapping motion. She enjoyed just how cold the water was, the crisp taste only cold a delight to her dry throat. The queen silently came out of the shadows, her regal blue feathers shining in the moonlight as she made her way over. She had sized up Starlight at a distance beforehand, noting that they were roughly the same size. “My my… what do we have here?” She said, rather amused by the intruder. “Did you enjoy that drink of water? Oh, goodness me, I forgot to introduce myself to you. I am Queen Rhys of Atlantis, and who might you be?” She asked in a conversational tone, seemingly unfazed by the intruder in front of her. Starlight stopped drinking the moment the queen had walked out, a startled gaze locked onto the royal in question. Starlight was shocked that she had been discovered so quickly, but more so annoyed as she finally gave her name. “My name is Starlight, I apologize for intruding upon your humble abode.” She replied, playing it safe by flattering the queen. The queen looked amused as she came forward to stand close to Starlight and replied, “Well, you are welcome here, but only if you take up an offer I have for you. You can stay here with us, by doing so you will be able to come and leave freely and hunt as you see fit. You'd spread my seeds across the area and come to no harm at all under my protection .” Starlight glared at the queen, “And if I refuse?” Starlight challenged. “Then you'll die and have your body used for fertilizer, we will toss you into a pit, where your body will decompose and then be spread on my plants. Your choice. You wouldn't want me to call the guards in here to take you there now.” The queen replied back, tone taking a rather sharp edge that set Starlight on edge and had her body tensing. The queen circled Starlight, waiting impatiently for the answer that Starlight would give. “It would be a shame to kill someone as beautiful as you, Starlight. We need more dinosaurs exactly like you.” The queen uttered softly. Starlight didn't trust the queen. She had a feeling that these plants would maim and kill off other dinosaurs once they were spread out and grown, and she refused to be the cause of all the woe that would ensue if she joined. Her life would be a miserable one of servitude. She needed to stop Rhys before it was too late. She would need to be quick with her attack, to catch the queen off guard so that she wouldn't be able to call for help. Starlight spun quickly and rammed her tail harshly against the side of the queen's face, causing the queen’s head to snap to the side from the impact. The queen was disoriented for a moment and Starlight took the opportunity to end things quickly, lunging for the queen’s throat with her strong jaws. She lifted the queen up by the throat and thrashed, hearing exactly what she needed to. She snapped the queen’s neck. She genuinely hated that she had to end the queen’s life like this, but it was for the good of all dinosaurs that she ended this life. She heard shuffling from a ways away and she started fleeing, not wishing to be caught and killed for the murder of the queen. She rushed outside and into the brush, the faint sounds of guards rushing in and alarms blaring making it known that the queen was dead and that they were on the hunt for her. She ended up losing them after a while, but still continued running just to make sure she wasn't caught. She decided that was enough exploring for quite a while. She would need time to think about everything. It was enough thought to last her a lifetime. She tiredly found an area to rest for a while, her eyes growing heavy as sleep claimed her.
