A Fishy Duo

Gimlet was starting to get hungry. His belly grumbled beneath each step he took on the island. Trying his best to stay near water, as he enjoyed it so much for some reason. He was just drawn to it. Plus, it felt nice on his flesh from time to time.

Following the edge of the shoreline, he would look around every so often, trying to see if there were any food sources nearby. Nothing thus far.

After several moments though, he caught the scent of another. Curiosity started to distract his grumbling stomach.

A Cryo was wandering around the edge of the opposing side of the shoreline. Gimlet tilted his crocodile-like head curiously as his tongue slid out and licked his ‘lips’. Oh how a Cryo would be tasty to eat, he thought to himself.

The Cryo was not really paying attention to the Suchomimus until she became only several meters away from it. Nightingale blinked her red eyes. Confused at first but scanned around the other.

“Why, hello there,” Nightingale greeted the other, in a friendly tone. She did not want to do any harm to the Sucho.

“Heh are you hunting too?” Gimlet asked, almost surprised by the fact the Cryo wanted to converse with him. He was odd; lime colored with some black and red markings around his snout that trailed to his belly. The red, he would hope, allow others to assume it was blood. When really, it was just a fancy mark to him.

Nightingale giggled softly with a nod then spoke, “Yes, I’m trying to find some food for the Oviraptors. The Queen requested it so it must be done.”

Her tone changed slightly at the end of her words. It ‘must be done’ seemed quite stern but determined.

Gimlet nodded in agreement.

“Why don’t we pair up? It’ll give a better chance to find something to bring,” Nightingale shifted her stance. Almost excitedly, as her tail swayed behind back and forth. Hoping that the Sucho would join her. Afterall, two sets of bodies were better than one, especially when it came to hunting for some food.

“Heh, sure. I call dibs on the first bit tho’. I’m famished,” Gimlet spoke in agreeing with the Cryo. He looked around the Cryo once more with his red-like eyes then his eyes met with her red ones, before speaking again.

“What’s yer name? I’m Gimlet.”

“Nightingale,” she gave a quick but soft reply. Nearly lowering her body to a bow. A sign of respect to know that this Gimlet was in good hands with her. She did her best to follow orders, especially when it involved the Queen.

“Pleasure to meet you, heh,” Gimlet replied while giving a light nod to the other’s bow.

Nightingale looked around them before moving forth, scanning the area. To the right of her, but left of Gimlet, the water danced pleasantly. Perhaps they could go catch some fish. Easy prey for two large creatures such as themselves.

“Should we try to get some fish then find the Oviraptor?” Nightingale questioned, inquisitively.

Gimlet groaned a little under his breath. Anything to appease this Nightingale, he guessed plus.. this means he could devour one for himself. His stomach grumbled again. Louder this time. Nightingale noticed.

“Sounds like you’re hungry,” Nightingale was looking toward Gimlet’s stomach as she heard it growl. Without realizing the duo talking about eating, her own stomach growled softly. She giggled to herself before she turned her body to the right, stepping in the nice warm water. It tickled her flesh with such ease and calm.

Gimlet only allowed a ‘heh’ sound from his mouth, as he too, would turn to the left, stepping into the water. The water was nice and warm. His favorite temperature. Any colder and his body would instantly want to retreat.

“You go that way, and I’ll go this way,” Nightingale pointed in the direct to the left for Gimlet to go and her, to go to the right.

Gimlet gave a nod in agreement. He had no issue taking direction from another Carnivore.

While the pair was essentially swimming around, finding fish an oviraptor was on the hunt of their own. The small striped creature would bob around, pecking their beak to the ground to find some bugs. Bugs were nearly at the bottom of the food chain for them. Mischief continued to peck at the ground, grabbing various bugs. Some other dinosaurs would not be able to see or even feel underneath their steps. Mischief knew all too well how good the bugs tasted. It was almost like eating air though! Blech!

Without realizing it, Mischief came to a spot that had a pond. She stuttered in her steps, seeing a Suchomimus and Cryolophosaurus lurking about within the water.

At first glance, it kind of startled her but then she nearly had an ‘aha moment’. Perhaps they had something to give her! She was starving! Her stomach growled, from hunger. Almost ashamed of the sound, she held her arms close to her body in a hug-like fashion.

“Ex.. ex-excuse me!” Mischief spoke as loud as the little Oviraptor could. Even though her stomach had growled, she lifted one arm to flap her hand into a wave. Trying to grab their attention.

“Huh?” Gimlet had since found at least one fish but had consumed it. His belly seized from growling, for now. He looked around. Seeing Nightingale with two fish within her possession, before his eyes would pan to the small Ovi.

“Nightingale! Look!” Gimlet quickly spoke in an exclaimed tone. He became excited to know there was an Oviraptor. Instead of going off to find one, it came to them. How lovely!

Nightingale paused in her search, even though she seemed to have found two trout-like fish. Gripped between her talons as she turned her body and headed to the Ovi. Curiously, she hoped Gimlet would follow and meet up.

Gimlet did just that.

Both large carnivores pushed their ways through the waters until their bodies were out of the water. The liquid dripping from their fleshes.

Surprisingly, Gimlet, too held onto a small croppy-like fish.

“I don’t mean no harm, but bugs just aren’t cuttin’ it for me today! Are… are those for me?” Mischief spoke in a disappointed tone at first then perked up, seeing the carnivores holding onto fish. Two different types too, wowza! Mischief thought in this incredible find. Her body shifted as her feet did a ‘happy’ dance of pitter patter to the ground and her talon fingers interlinking.

Nightingale and Gimlet looked at each other with red or red-like eyes, giving a nod to one another as they dropped the fish before the Ovi.

“Help yourself,” Nightingale spoke with a soft smile across her snout.

“Heh, yeah. Any leftovers though, I wan’em!” Gimlet agreed with some reluctancy. He was still hungry.

“Ohhh how lovely and precious of you two,” Mischief continued to dance happily as she pecked her beak into the small croppy-like fish. Swallowing the bits up quickly before she spoke again, “The queen will be pleased with you two for helpin’ me out. I’ll put in a good word.”

“Ah, appreciate that. Anything good for the Queen is good for me,” Nightingale spoke in a sincere voice. She looked over at Gimlet, hoping he would be pleased as well.

Gimlet scanned to Nightingale then nodded, “yes, anything for the Queen.” He was fairly reluctant to agree but if nothing was to happen to himself or his now, new friend Nightingale either. He was happy.
