Part of digging a trench means that there are plenty of materials around to spare - and make something new with. Bagel, Toast, and Silva gather stones and debris from the riverside to add to what has already been built, blocking the bridge and at the very least slowing aggressive dinos that might try to use the bridge to reach and attack Atlantis.
