Fixing walls with family

Being with someone is always better than being against them. One would never know if or when they would need the help again. Such turmoil is bad for anyone as well. Fighting was not always an answer, either.

This is why Nightingale wanted to assist the Queen in repairing the walls of the dome to make sure nothing from the sea comes in. Whether it be creatures, humans or otherwise. Even though, down here no one really knows if humans exist. It was all speculation.

Nightingale was curious to know whether or not anyone would like to help her in repairing a section of the wall. She was kind of unsure of where to go. Lacking the sense of direction within her skill set. She hoped to find another that could help guide her.

That was her downfall, really, unable to figure out where to go but with some direction, could easily figure it out. It was almost a math problem for her. But in reality, what dinosaur knows what math is?

--------

In order to avoid conflict, Zaxon had agreed to help out the iguanodons with repairing the dome. He had heard rumours about Atlantis being on the verge of collapsing and that they planned to invade the islands to secure them as their new home, so deep inside he hoped that by repairing their recurrent home, they would prefer to stay. But then again, who would want to live their whole life locked up inside? He knew for sure it wasn’t good, especially seeing what Nidhogg had done to his beloved Ajax.

He looked around a bit for tools to help aid with repairs, and among all the dinosaurs scurrying about he spotted a familiar face, his half sister Nightingale. Seeing her made him cheer up a bit in this whole mess, so once he had the opportunity to pass by a couple of parasaurs that were hauling planks he made his way over to his sister, who looked slightly lost.

“Hey sis, do you need any help with that?” he asked with a smile, referring to the cracked wall she was lingering by. He was more than happy to help, and it would likely please both the iguanodons and euoplos seeing them work more efficiently, he thought to himself.

“I brought this thing, they said it’s good for filling in cracks and small holes.” Zaxon said as he offered a tube of caulk that he had been given by some of the resident primates that could be seen jumping around.
“Not sure exactly how to use it though..” he chuckled nervously. ”But I’m sure we can figure it out together!”

The determined cryo started to fiddle around with a second tube in an attempt to figure out how these things worked, and eventually he got it to work, purely by accident, but he would of course not admit that.

“Right.. Let’s see here..” he mumbled to himself as he pushed the tip into a hole and very clumsily managed to fill one of the smaller cracks with the gooey material. He was very curious as to what it was and how it could be so effective, but he had to trust the process, supposedly. The residents surely knew what they were talking about, as they had lived here for long and had surely done their fair share of maintenance throughout the years.

--------

Nightingale turned, hearing a familiar voice and took in all the words that were spoken from them. Even though she never really had a relationship with her siblings or half siblings. She smiled softly, seeing how her sibling looked similar to their father Frog.

“Oh, yeah… sure!” Nightingale replied softly as she acknowledged the crack in the wall. She just was unsure of how she could do it herself. Luckily for her, half brother to the rescue?! Extra dinosaur fingers were always a plus!

Observing the caulk, she tilted her head to the side a little, examining it. How interesting, she thought to herself. Before looking at her brother with red eyes to the crack in the wall. Hearing him muttering about.

Nightingale moved closer to him to help with the hole, watching the goo come out of the cylindrical object. The goo was getting all over him. She giggled softly as she quickly grabbed another small piece of wood.

“Here, let’s use this to scoop up the extra goo and then spread it around. Maybe that’ll help hold things together a bit more,” her voice was sincere and caring as she enjoyed helping others. Especially with her half brother? Who would not wanna say no to that?! And, especially.. Especially for the court!

“We gotta do it fast or it dries, I think,” Nightingale quickly added as she continued to help Zaxon.

--------

Zaxon, too, laughed at his own mess and happily accepted his sister’s help.
“I do doubt it will hold anything in this state so you are probably right, which means I should.. Get this washed off before it dries.” Zaxon sighed, looking around for a bucket of water, hose, or anything like it.

He spotted a bucket full of dirty water and looked over to the nearest dino he could find that wasn’t frantically running around doing repairs.
“May I wash myself with this?” he asked, trying to sound kind and patient despite his growing panic over whatever this goop was drying his fingers together.
“It’s not mine, do as you like.” the stranger huffed and walked away.
Zaxon wasn’t amused by their rudeness, but didn’t want to pick a fight so he just dipped his hands in and splashed them astound to wash them as best a s he could. When he couldn’t feel the caulk sticking to him anymore he promptly returned to his sister to keep helping out.

Zaxon sighed as he looked all over the cracked wall.

“I don’t know how they expect us to be able to fix all of this. I don’t mean to sound negative but what if what we do doesn’t even help? What if we do it for nothing?” he groaned, being annoyed by the mere thought of his hard work going to waste.

He shook his head and grabbed the caulk as if it was life or death. “Don’t listen to me, sister, I’m just being unnecessarily pessimistic today. We got this!” he exclaimed, trying to motivate himself to keep going as well as to motivate his sister. He didn’t want her to be as grumpy as himself over this, after all.

--------

Nightingale nodded with a large, silly smile toward her half brother and his remarks. Feeling the goo on her own dinosaur fingers, she wiggled them before realizing that it was hardening on herself.

She followed Zaxon to get some sort of water to wash off the goo. Hearing the stranger be short with him, she let out a low growl. Mostly as a threat but did not want to argue or fight. She was not one to mess with, and more so when it came to someone she cared about.

Zaxon reminded her of their father, Frog. She could not help but giggle again. It was some sort of warm feeling of happiness that flowed within her. She felt rather peaceful around him, even with all the commotions of mending the walls.

Sliding her own talon fingers into the water shortly after Zaxon, Nightingale let the almost dried up goo, fall off. It did not take much for it to be free of that shell-like feeling covering her flesh.

Nightingale let out a soft hum before she replied, her tone was caring and soft, with some reassurance, “I’m sure there’s a reason for all this. Everyone is frantic for…” she paused for a moment. Thinking, why is everyone frantic? If the walls were caving in, it was literally everyone who would be in trouble.

“I guess, some just want to be pessimistic and wish for the worst of themselves. At least we are making an effort in trying to help everyone else. Not doing it just for ourselves, ykno’?,” Nightingale added after a brief moment while posing a question. She wanted peace in the world, and it seemed her half brother wanted the same. That gave her some hope, that coming together as family would allow the walls to be fixed faster. Although, it may seem silly to others that did not know her.

--------

Zaxon agreed with what she said with a nod. He felt very safe with his half sister, her words were wise and he couldn't help but think that he'd be worse off without her there. Especially since he didn't know where Ajax was at the moment. He was worried, but Nightingale helped him stay grounded among the chaos.

“Thank you, Nightingale. I really appreciate you.” he said with a smile, before starting to work more on the wall. He wasn't going to give up. He couldn't. Everyone's lives potentially depended on it, seeing as the whole place would get flooded if the walls didn't hold.

“I'm sure we're doing the right thing..” he said. Mostly to assure himself that he didn't betray his homeland but helping the Atlanteans out.
