Small eyes stalked through the bushes as two figures crouched in wait as they watched some dragonflies who landed to rest on the leaves of the plants and with quick movements they dashed from the cover and missed the bugs that were quick to fly away as Geode crashed into Boneyard and laughed before watching her companion stand up and shake himself off.

“ you have to be careful Geode at this rate we aren’t going to catch anything” Boneyard said as he growled under his breath watching the small utahraptor get up and dust herself off, but he smiled and sighed they were still

Young and trying to catch food hadn’t been going well even if they had watched others do it from the shadows they just couldn’t get it right.  Geode laughed and smiled “oh come on we have to learn some way, I’m sure we will get the hang of it Bone” she barked out before looking around. They had been staying close to the Forrest area as it had given them cover from much larger predators and kept them safe for now.

Boneyard knew she was right but eating scraps wasn’t cutting it anymore for them and they would have to find something that provided more food for the two. 

“Come on Geode, let’s go look for something I think I saw some burrowing rabbits earlier we could try and catch” the cryo said before walking off just to be followed by Geode who was quick to follow and nodded, they had seen the burrowing rabbits before and it seemed like a good idea. They were small enough but just super fast maybe it would be a start for the two to actually hunt something instead of bugs that provided little of a meal.

Out in the opening they spotted the small mammals munching away at the leaves surrounding them and Geode locked eyes on the movement and watched Boneyard who stood beside her hidden by the dense trees, they had found the burrowing rabbits and they would need a plan in order to catch them. “Maybe we wait till they get away from the burrow more” Geode said quietly as she glanced at the large hole in the ground, she knew if they got back in there their chances would be ruined.

“That’s a good idea Geode, let’s wait a few moments before we strike them” Boneyard said as he agreed with what she said and watched closely as the rabbits moved further away from the burrow entrance with each step until they were just in front of the two, this would be their first real meal but catching them was going to be tough. both their feathers raised as they kept still making sure not to move a muscle knowing the rabbits were quick to spook.

Geode was the first to jump out as she chased a rabbit that was close to her and it dashed with quick  movements which had Boneyard caught off guard but he quickly burst out of the bush after her, the hunt was on and the two worked together and they kept the rabbit close enough but out of reach as Geode kept on it while Boneyard stood over the hole so none of the others could use it to get away which it was working.

“That’s it, keep on it geode!” He called out to her as he was ready watching the rabbit dash back and forth to try and lose the utahraptor but she was quick to follow its movements. 

“Watch the hole it’s coming for it” she barked out really going all out as she snapped at the rabbit who sped up to avoid the teeth before chasing it right towards Boneyard who was ready to grab it up once it got closer, but the rabbit was a bit more cunning as it slipped through his legs but the young cryo wasn’t going to give in that easily.

“Don’t let it get away!” Geode said halting to a stop watching Boneyard dive head first into the burrow is tail up in the air, after a few moments and struggling Boneyard had grabbed the rabbit and pulled as hard as he could flinging backwards and in his jaws was the rabbit which escaped his grasp before Geode quickly stepped on it and killed it with her large claw on her foot.

“Good job Bone! You really didn’t want to lose that did you” she said barking out in excitement at their first kill before looking at Boneyard who had gotten to his feet and shook himself off before grinning.

“Our first difficult to catch meal, there was no way I was letting it slip my jaws” he said laughing looking at the now dead burrowing rabbit, as the others cleared the area hopping away.

The utahraptor laughed and sniffed the rabbit before leaning down and ripping it tossing the other half to Boneyard who licked his jaws, they had picked easy prey but hard to catch and it paid off even if they weren’t experts at hunting but this was their first time having a successful hunt and eating meat which was so worth the bumps and bruises they required.

“Wow we should have hunted these way sooner even if they are difficult to catch” Boneyard said as he looked at Geode who nodded and smiled before speaking “ I’m sure we can get the hang of it each time we do it” she called out also enjoying their meal, burrowing rabbits were one thing to hunt and there was much more

Difficult prey on the island but there would do for now for the young dinosaurs.

“Next time I’m chasing them, and you're pouncing. I don’t think they snout can take another dirt dive bomb” the Cryo said before finishing up his portion and now had a full belly.

His companion laughed as she also finished hers up and sat down the two talking about how they could improve for next times hunt.
