Seek X Jabberwocky - (Courtship)

Courting season was upon the island and most dinosaurs were getting with partners or winning others over in various displays some with sparing and others with gifting, all was going well but for others courtship was a delicate balance between life and death with larger carnivores testing their potential partners with harsher outcomes if all didn’t go well.

Deep in the forest a loud rumble echoed through the trees as a pale scaled large acro male was digging out an area for himself and using his rumbles to attract a dangerous foe if he wasn’t careful in what he was doing it could end very badly as most female acro’s during this time were temperamental to the extreme and the much smaller males sometimes posed as a nice meal. 

Seek had been preparing his area for the arrival of a female and was in the midst when he felt the presence of one enter the area around him, the scent of blood drifting through the air and flaring his nostrils up with each breath he took in.

“She’s around” he grumbled to himself as he shifted his weight moving is head in the direction of the sent and before he knew it red eyes gazed on him followed by a face that bared teeth and roared loudly as Jabberwocky came into the clearing her arms out at the ready and her body language in a hostile approach, it was a large female and she had followed Seeks sent and low rumbles that echoed through the forest like a song. 

Seek bowed to Jabberwocky as he lowered his head rumbling and locked eyes with her, he needed to be careful in the courtship process as any wrong move the female could attack and that’s how most young male acros died during their first courtship dance. Jabberwocky looked at the area Seek had dug out and sniffed the ground taking in his appearance as she hissed walking towards the male who moved slowly as she roared at him seeing if he would move or flinch, testing his strength and temperament.

Seek moved with her as he rumbled low in his throat showing he was less dominant in the pair which was a good step as the females usually were, swaying his head as he rumbled showing off his scales and colors to entice Jabberwocky showing he was in good health and would make a good partner to pair with.

Jabber followed Seek and watched his movement before calming slightly and following his movements with her head as she gauged his temperament and liked how he was approaching her but hissed when he stepped out of line but was quickly impressed when Seek showed his throat to her which meant he was trusting her with what to do next. Seek kept still as he let Jabber approach him before taking in her scent. Arco courtship was a dangerous game and most first timers and would find out the hard way, but Seek was doing well and winning Jabber over slowly as she mimicked his movements.

“Well done, what's your name?” Jabber hissed through her teeth sniffing Seek’s snout as she rumbled in a low tone. In which Seek relaxed and listened to Jabber’s voice it was rough but calming slightly to the male.

“My name is Seek and your’s is?” he said calmly to Jabberwocky as the two finalized their courtship dance, in which she spoke up and said her name to him “it’s Jabberwocky” she said before huffing and walking ahead of Seek as now she wanted to test the young male, she wasn’t fully won over yet but the two were at a good pace in which Seek followed quickly and made sure to keep his distance from Jabber incase she decided he wasn’t a match in a quick moment. 

The two would now look for a nesting area in which they would raise their hatchlings together in their early stages of life but Seek would have to pick a good spot and Jabber would have to agree in what the spot was but it was Seek’s turn to now take the lead as she motioned her head forwards.

Seek nodded and decided to take the lead and started looking for a good nesting spot in which if he picked ones that Jabber didn’t like she would growl and hiss and move on but eventually Seek picked a soft sandy dry spot and Jabber stopped inspecting the area with her snout before looking back at Seek in approval, now it was time to look for materials to build the nest which both acro’s would take part in. 

Seek would bring various nesting material to Jabber as she would build the nest in the nesting area they had picked carefully placing each branch and other things carefully, it took a couple hours but they finally finished as Seek and Jabberwocky sat down to rest with the two rubbing their snouts together enjoying the company of one another but this would only last during this courtship period.

Over the next few weeks Seek and Jabberwocky would hunt and prepare for the arrival of their hatchlings that would need 24/7 attention being born into the dangerous world and Jabberwocky was content on Seek as a partner as she rested her head down near him as they watched over their nesting site and would wait for a few days until the hunting would start as the herds would finish their courting and be on the move along with wasting the energy which would make them easy prey.

The day became calm as Seek and Jabberwocky cuddled up against one another to enjoy their new bond and eachother for as long as they could, around the new nesting site and a large mound was in between them… their future would come soon it was now just about waiting. 

Seek grumbled and closed his eyes while Jabber did the same and dozed off their courting coming to a end.
