Coconut adventures
Nightingale was just waking up from her slumber. Standing upright, she stretched her legs, toes and fingers as far as out as they could reach. Shaking her skull, side to side, she let out a roar of a yawn. Oops, hopefully no one nearby thought she was trying to make a threat; she thought to herself.
She did not realize how deep of a sleep she had from the night before. Laid up under some large ferns and used some of the broken off fern leaves as her makeshift bedding for the night. Eyes still hazy with sleepiness. Soon, she would wake up more.
It was a beautiful morning. Clouds of different sizes filled the sky, but none signaled bad weather. It was a perfect time to try and look for coconuts! The heat of the sun waking up felt nice and warm. A light breeze could be felt throughout the trees of various types; bamboo, pine, palm, all sorts of what any one creature would see within the islands.
Nightingale heard through others that it was a sweet treat to snack on during the heat of the summer months. A shiver shifted throughout her body at the idea of a new adventure. Excitement. That alone woke her up even more. The sleepiness she had sensed weighing on her eyelids dissipated.
She always enjoyed figuring out new things and new ways to survive out her. Being young still gave her some advantage in figuring out the ropes of things.
However, there was some uncertainty with what she heard about coconuts. They were physically hard to open. But were they just as hard to find?
Nightingale was not sure, but she knew or at least, felt it in her bones, that they had to be somewhere near water. The last pond she walked by the day prior had no sign of a coconut.
Heck, she was unsure of what the tree looked like! She just knew about them being a little fuzzy, and circular in shape.
Making that as a mental note on her adventure. The Cryo wiggled her entire body as she pressed forward, heading toward a beach. Or at least, she had hoped it would lead to a beach. Supposedly those coconuts lived there.
It did not take long for Nightingale to find a beach. Even for a Cryo, one would undeniably think it to be odd that a creature like herself would be so drawn to any water type. It gave her some peace of mind. That was okay in her world though, she liked being the odd one. It gave curiosity to anyone she would encounter and almost deceived what was normal.
While Nightingale had reached the beach shoreline, she gazed around with her red orbs. Blinking slowly; taking in the scene before her as well as eyeing for a coconut.
The air was salty, and the wind was cool, bouncing off of the small tides, teasing the shoreline. The soft blue color of the water, floating to the soft tan sands, was appeasing to the eyes. There were a few areas of trees scattered around as well as some various sized rocks. None of them were as big as Nightingale though.
While gazing around, Nightingale took note of some of the life that had been waltzing about on the shoreline. A family of crabs dancing left and right to the waves moving in and out of the beach.
A soft giggle escaped throughout Nightingale’s snout, she was content.
“Hmm…” Nightingale thought, as the hum erupted from her maw. She spotted a set of oddly shaped trees, they looked like a palm tree but the top of it was much thicker than normal. Time to investigate!
Nightingale cautiously walked to the tree, trying her best not to disrupt the crab family. Staying as close but as far as possible while making her way to the odd palm tree.
Once she reached the bottom of the tree, she looked up, tilting her body back more to see more clearly. She blinked in awe.
At the top of the tree there were large leaves, they looked like ferns to her, but the leaves were much thinner. The leaves were attached to the highest point and there they were coconuts! There were at least a half dozen sitting tightly with the tree.
Although these were not really fuzzy. They had more of a green-yellow hue to them. At least from a distance, she could not tell if they were fuzzy. Without hesitation, Nightingale used her small arms to push against the trunk of the tree. She had hoped it would shift one of them to fall.
At first, nothing.
The tree shifted, in a very stiff manner while the thinned-out leaves on the very top danced. It was as if she barely tickled the tree.
“Dang.. let’s try again,” Nightingale spoke to herself. Giving her a peptalk, so to speak, to try and use her upper body strength to hopefully get one of these dang coconuts!
Her determination oozed from her movement as she pushed against the tree again. This time was more powerful and ended up making the tree shift more. It danced as the coconuts at the top clinked against one another, making a sound of something chiming against another item.
“One more big one, come on!” she said out loud to herself, again, giving her a little peptalk. She used as much of her strength as she could before shoving her arms around the trunk and hit the trunk with her body; a thunk was heard.
It did not faze her at first, but the thunk she heard was near her right side. She shifted back slightly, turning her head to the right and spotted one of the coconuts.
Her red eyes glistened with excitement.
“Finally!” Nightingale exclaimed. Not realizing how loud she truly was, trying to knock one of them out of the tree.
She looked around, quickly, to see if anyone was disturbed. Luckily for her, no one was. Not even the crab family.
Leaning forward, she would reach down to touch and pick up the ball. It rolled against her limb in a careful manner. Her arm curled around the coconut as she decided to head back into the forest where she slept the night before and investigate more of what this coconut was about. Little did she know though, that opening it would be a bigger challenge than trying to knock one out of the tree itself.
