Dust flew up as heavy movement crushed against the ground with the snorting and laughing followed behind it, Smoketrail had been away from the herd for some time now and was off exploring the usual places on the island he had gone to or come across before. Today’s exploration he had something different on his mind as he took an unusual path he never had taken before and found himself in a thick area of what it seemed to be like a bog or swamp like area he had never traveled to, the pathway he was following now overtaken by water and thick mud which give him a bit of trouble to navigate through with each step. Large trees hung low as the leaves were thick and a murky smell filled the air causing Smoketrail to stick his nose up to avoid it the best he could.

“Eww why does this place smell so bad, I never have been here” he snorted to himself as he continued deeper the water getting darker with each step but he would stop every so often spotting a large toad that would flop into the water and swim out of sight. The area Smoketrail had found himself in was the thick swamp area which many avoided due to the nature of the area and how hard it was to travel through it, especially heavy herbivores who would sink into the mud pools that hid below. Smoketrail being a fairly young styraco didn’t care and his mind was only set on exploring the new area even if it smelt like shit, he could tolerate it for the most part as he came to a stop sniffing the water as it was covered in vibrant green lily pads and other colorful plant life like water lilies. 

Splashing and moving around Smoketrail let out a laugh as he observed various bug life as well watching large dragonflies fly by his frill and other beetles that clung to other plants he would pass by with each step, this new area was starting to grow on Smoketrail as he really enjoyed the area even though it was a swamp and nothing like he had explored before this was all new to the herbivore. After a while Smoketrail had found a small patch of water moss that made a small island like place to rest as he pulled himself from the mud and shook his scales before looking around and picking up his feet feeling the moss and how soft it was underneath him.

“Whoa look at this, it seems like it’s like a bed” Smoketrail said to himself before laying down and rubbing against the moss as it felt good on his scales before watching some bugs crawl alongside him, the swamp was big and it spanned for miles and Smoketrail only had found a small part of the bog swamp. Some time went by as Smoketrail decided to head back into the shallow swamp water as he felt the mud cling to him which made him snort “What else does this place have hidden in here” he said continuing on. Ducking and crawling over logs was starting to become a hassle and the large styraco wasn’t liking it one bit but his need for adventure and exploring the new area was much more important than his discomfort. 

“Now I understand why the herd doesn’t come here, I could hear the complaining already” he said to himself now covered in mud and smelly water, it was getting worse and worse the longer he was staying here. It was all new and he liked that it was different rather than his other places he’s been on the island he wanted something new and something with a challenge which the swamp was providing very nicely for him, besides who didn’t love moving through thick mud that clung to your scales and feet while you walked, and the plant life around here.

Finally out on the other side of the thick bog area , Smoketrail had emerged seeing the much larger portion of the swamp, it was vast and full of life and looked very different vs the fields he called

Home, and it just screamed new and adventurous to the young sty who pranced across the moss that created an area to stand on, it was throughout the swamp everywhere.

“ good thing I kept exploring this place is massive” he said before sitting down again and taking it all in, something about the new place gave Smoketrail the chills down his scales and keen look in his eye, he would explore this entire area even if his feet hurt and he had to come back multiple times but for now he was resting as the exploring he had done was getting to him.

“I may have to head back soon, it’s getting dark and I don’t want to get lost here while trying to find the way back” he muttered before standing up and stretching out, and off he went retracing his steps and the way he came, the day had been filled and his exploring of a new place itch was scratched for now, he just now needed to find his way back but Smoketrail kept marks around as he moved further in.

After a bit and traveling through some hard to move mud pits Smoketrail finally found himself outside of the bog and swamp area before he looked up and nodded happily “ I’ll be back for some more exploring just you wait swamp lands” Smoketrail

His herd what he explored today and the new area he had found Himself In and he had so much to share, exploring was always his favourite and finding a new place was on the top Of his list, but it was back to The herd now and back to, The same place he new And loved the

Grasslands.

“What a great day” he muttered to himself.
