It was that time of year again as many were out to impress others in a chance to win one another over and raise clutches again. This year the pachys were in their prime to start showing off head butting skills against one another for courtship. 

Head butting was a dangerous game to play during courtship as if one wrong move was taken it could have lasting consequences for both sides with some pachys suffering broken bones and long lasting injuries. As many came to mingle a black female who spotted black feathers and pale eyes avoided the many suitors that chased her around being annoyed by the amount there were.

“There is also so much choice” she mumbled to herself as Ealdreith pushed past jousting males as the sounds of their cranium-like domes smashed together as they exchanged blows. Soon enough she was approached by a male who had won a few fights and was trying to impress Ealdreith as she backed up stepping over logs and other plant life that had made its way out into the grassy fields, but Ealdreith wasn’t interested as she sighed before turning away but was quickly ushered by the male who wouldn’t let her leave…

“Oh no thank you! Really.. your skills are very nice but just not for me” she mumbled staying in front of the male as he pushed her away, this is the part she hated about the courtship season overly pushy males.

The two came into a halt when a loud honk rung out into the area as a flash of blue and black colored scales beamed from the sun, followed by cold blue eyes staring daggers into the male pachy who stood by Ealdreith.

It was Shatterdome as well known pachy who spotted brilliant scales and a spiked collar around her neck, and if it was one thing that others knew about her is she meant business when it was courtship season, and she had eyes on Ealdreith as the pair had already had one clutch before last season and she wanted to impress the feathered pachy again this year even if it meant putting a male in his place to win her over.

“You know pushing the ladies around isn’t the way to impress them” Shatter snorted as she stood tall making her way towards the male to size him up, which she did easily as she was on the larger size for female pachys and it looked like the male was eager to accept.

“That’s what I like to see , a challenge” Shatter snorted as she pawed at the ground winking at Ealdreith who stepped back and smiled when Shatter looked at her, she would be happy if they nested again for the season and it was nice to see a familiar face and besides she knew that Shatter could handle it on her own and she was looking forwards to be impressed at the show about to start.

Both pachys reared upwards as they snorted before taking off towards one another their dome at the ready, and with a loud smash their heads it and began pushing one

The ground as she snorted pushed the male back who seemed to be surprised at the harsh hit she gave him, his confidence going down as she pushed him causing his footing to lift and lose balance.

“Got ya!” She said stepping back and ramming into the males side causing her to knock him over as he let out a painful honk, Shatterdome had won and snorted before shaking herself off and watching any other males who had been interested in Ealdreith back off to try their luck elsewhere.

“Oh wow good job!” She said watching as the male who was bugging her stood up and shook himself off before trotting off with his pride bruised, Shatterdome had done it again and this time she was even more impressive than last year and Ealdreith liked that a lot as she approached Shatter who smiled at her.

“Long time no see Ealdreith” she said softly before nuzzling her and holding out some flowers she had found for her earlier, gifting was common between the two during their courtship and last time they were out running amongst the stars, it’s like they hadn’t even been apart.

“Always have to one up everyone huh shatter” she said chuckling and looking at the flowers before taking them in her claws, before she shook out her feathers from all the tense fighting. 

“Only for you, now the question is would you like to pair this season” she said awkwardly and nervously on a response from Ealdreith who already knew the answer, “well yes is that even a question!” She honked before rushing off and running her tail under shatters chin who followed and laughed calling out to her.

“I’m glad! Let’s go find a nesting spot” she said with the two chasing one another as the rest of the pachy herd courted and seeked out their partners for the season, nesting was the next part about courting and the two were experienced from last year so finding a nesting spot was easy for them as they settled under some large fallen trees that were hidden well away from predators.

Make sure it was perfect for when their hatchlings would arrive in the next coming weeks. Ealdreith and Shatter shared a bond like no other and the two were

Happy to pair anytime they could as Shatter was a great protector and Ealdreith was a nurturing mother, they made a great team in raising young.

After a long nest building the two huddled up in their new home and watched the stars above shoot across the sky, almost as if it was connected to the first time they met and paired. It was time to get some rest for the upcoming responsibility of parent hood.
