Curiosity of curiosities

Within the isles and their respective islands, lived all creatures both big and small, the hustle and bustle of them was nothing out of the ordinary. Rumors had spread from creature to creature, about some investigations that were going on with and for unknown reasons. The dinosaurs, more specifically than just creatures, did not want to be comes someone’s next meal, or worse, extinct, like those bipedal humans. They essentially had trashed the planet before going extinct. Leaving bits and pieces of their life throughout the Earth.

Those pesky humans. Pff. The ones who were creating the commotion with the investigation, minded their own business. Thankfully.

At least, for now, it would seem as such.

There was an emptiness felt within the islands of Ilsa Pera, specifically within Shimmering Cove…. A particular Cryolophorsaurus, by the name Nightingale, was wandering around. However, no one truly cared about being ‘named’ something. Most of the dinosaurs just knew each other based on the species and what kind of food or prey, rather, that would be consumed if one were to have an empty stomach.

Amongst this Shimmering Cove, there was a beach with ivory sands and colorful pebbles of many hues. The air felt nice and cool. It almost tasted like salt, too.

The waters and dense forest synergized quite well. The colorfulness of the shoreline to the blues of the tides teasing the shoreline and the various shades of green forest. It was serenity.

Supposedly, the waters in this area had healing powers. The water was extra warm in some of the pools. This area, was near a pool of water, too, but it did not extend out very far. It allowed a visual from all angles and direction though.

Nightingale flared her nostrils with inhales and exhales, breathing in the salty air which tickled her nose. A chill crept through her body as her toes made way to the area of the lively beach shore meets the waters. The water was quite warm and comfortable. Pale sands and vibrant stones wrapped within her toes and talons. Even though the salt stung, it made her more aware of her surroundings.

The last thing she would want is to disturb someone else and become their meal.

Nightingale had heard through the grapevine that these waters within the Shimmering Cove helped with aches and pains. But… what did that even mean? She was young and still curious. Learning the ways of the world. She wanted to help others which had been the main reason for her adventure. Nightingale allowed her senses to be on alert, every sense she could feel too, was now on prepared.

The dark blue grey Cryolophosaurus shuddered and trotted back to the beach area, away from the tides that danced to and fro. She wanted to avoid any quarrels. The salt water of waves, were rather calming even though Nightingale had her guard up. The ‘woosh’ sounds of the tide sounded melodious to her.

Overall, the vibrant rocks and white sands was a rather lovely sight to see. Mostly because she appeared to be the only dinosaur walking around.

Nightingale’s point of view; she saw various birds fluttering around in the distances as the tides did their dance, and she noted some aquatics not far out from the shoreline. Or at least, they looked like scaly fish to her and what she knew of them. There were other creatures out and about, but she had no idea which type they were. All she noticed was the peace that was all over them. When it came to the coloration of all the creatures she was seeing, it varied from monochromatic, black and whites, to rainbow colors similarly to the pebbles within the ivory sands beneath her toes.

Granted, after a few moments of scanning the area with her red orbs, Nightingale noticed there was a handful of rocks that had been stirred up. The rocks were much bigger than the rainbow stones that were sprinkled across the shoreline. And the dirt was freshly tampered with. Or at least, it looked like it to her. It was only a few meters from the area had teased the tides with the sands of the beach.

Nightingale cautiously looked around once more, before lurking forward. She shifted her body forward, almost lowering herself to the ground in a precautious manner. Her goal was to not disrupt anyone nearby.

Perhaps the others, however, knew what was going on. She just had not figured it out, yet.

Nightingale could hear chirps and howls of other dinosaurs within the tree line to the right of hear. It was basically a thickened forest to her right, as noted earlier. There were faint squawks from the birds above and from a distance. The multitude of green colors within the area looked nice against the vibrant pebbles within the pale sandy beach and the soft blue saltwater.

Nightingale was surely curious as to who or what was digging. She was too young to truly know which creature was ‘good’ at doing digging. But it never stopped her curiosity. The one thing she did notice was the rocks had to be big enough for some other creature to lift and carry away. Definitely not a Cryolophosaurus like herself.

A soft sigh flew through body and out of her maw and she tried to stay confident while being on high alert.

Nightingale’s “dinosaur hands” lay relaxed but curled, like she was holding an invisible leaf or rock as she crept cautiously to the dig site.

The scent of fresh dirt filled her nostrils. It tickled a little, which made her scoff at the feeling.

Whatever was in the hole was now gone.

The only things Nightingale saw with her red orbs was the couple of larger rocks and a few leaves of ferns. Looking around more, she noticed the ferns had some sort of trail into the dense forest.

How curious, Nightingale thought to herself.

Perhaps who- or what- ever was digging used the ferns to help carry the rocks away? Or maybe it was something for shade?

Nightingale’s curiosity increased immensely as she shifted her body slightly to face the tides once more before turning to the dense forest.

The trail from the fern, showed signs of another set of prints. But who or what?

Nightingale had no idea but she was on a mission now to find out.

Before trekking into the forest, however, Nightingale decided to look around to see if any other dinosaurs were nearby. Luckily, for her, every one of them distanced themselves and went scattering into a safer zone.
Safety was the least of Nightingale’s worries right now as curiosity oozed from her mind.

Glancing back into the dig site, there were some odd shapes she had never seen before. What kind of treasure was being dug up? Was it a corpse? Who knows!

Nightingale questioned as she lowered her skull toward the innards of the site. Sniffing a few times, there was the scent of dirt and something else. But what? It seemed odd to her.

She lifted herself upright again and, without hesitation, began to walk around the circle. Counting in her head, her steps: 1, 2…,3….4…hm. 4. It was four steps around the dig site. That was something at least.

Pausing briefly, she lifted her feet up slowly to look at her own prints. They did not match her own. Her own prints slightly sunk into the colorful pebbles and white sands. Even around the dig site, it was mostly of ebony and ivory sands, at least, darker sands. Not quite black but fairly close.

The other prints were certainly twice as big or heavier than her! What a monstrosity.

Yikes! Nightingale thought to herself at the idea. There was no way she wanted any trouble with whatever was going on within the isles. Especially here in the Shimmering Cove. It was too peaceful to fully interrupt and disrupt the others living here.
