Beach Days with a side of Coconut
A tumble of rocks, a kick of sand, a dust ball in the air, and the joyous laughter of a dinosaur having a lot of fun near the sandy beach and the ocean water right across. Pebble on the other hand was a bit more hesitant, shy, scared even. Fear filled him. He was a lot smaller than most utahraptors he knew, and his small size unfortunately contributed to his large fear. Of what? Everything.
Latte could not read the room though, and did not sense the fear surrounding Pebble. Tension so thick you could cut an obsidian knife through it. “What are you waiting for, let's go!” Latte would cheer in delight, running head first towards the shimmering water, her legs kicking into the sand harshly as she made it closer and closer to the edge, she was suddenly stopped by a figure jumping in front of her. Digging her heels into the sand she stared down at her friend in confusion.
“We are here to break coconuts, not swim at the beach!” Bogwater grumbled, using his tail he tossed a coconut at Latte who sighed dramatically and whined. Next up was Pebble who tried with all his might to catch the coconut but was essentially knocked back by it. “We have to bring these back to the others to eat.” Bogwater piped up, reminding his comrades what they were here for in the end.
Pebble couldn’t be more grateful, reminded of their original purpose he set to work on getting these coconuts opened. Watching as Bogwater grabbed the coconut with his mouth and broke it open in one bite the little Utahraptor tried to do the same but unfortunately, his mouth was not as big as Bogwater’s.
Latte was also struggling trying to figure out how to break this, thinking to herself she tried to tear it open with her talons to no avail. Next she tried to smack it with her tail but the sand was too soft and took all the blunt force. “Bogwater this is impossible!” She complained again, receiving a huff from Bogwater as he carried his broken coconuts to a pile of others he had broken. The sight caused Latte’s jaw to drop as she muttered something and continued her attempts.
Pebble had an idea though, an idea that involved using the palm tree behind him. Climbing up on the rocks, Bogwater watched in curiosity at what the little fellow was doing. “What are you planning Pebble?” He asked curiously, walking over to where the base of the palm tree was he looked up and watched the Utahraptor drop the coconut. Smashing it all over the rocks below and equivocally breaking it in half.
“Whoa Pebble did you do that!?” Latte shouted in shock, running over to stand besides Bogwater as Pebble smiled, quite pleased and proud of himself.
“Toss me some more coconuts! I’ll try and break them from up here!” he shouted at them, Latte on her mission now ran off to find some more coconuts to break. Picking some that had fallen to the floor she hurried back to Pebble.
“Will these work?” She asked, tossing them in the air for Pebble to catch who once again smashed it on the rocky grounds below.
“Well, let me just say, I never been more proud in my life.” Bogwater complimented the pair, picking up the remains of the half coconuts now to bring to the pile. “And I’m sure the others are gonna love this tasty treat too.” He said, walking back to collect the rest and once again adding it to the pile. Deciding to leave the two to work on their coconuts he got back to cracking his own. Coconut after Coconut, into the pile it went.
The sun now setting, Bogwater looked out at the relaxing ocean waves, the beautiful orange and red that mixed into the sky he took a deep breath and exhaled. Shaking his feathers and tail he felt at ease and decided to check back at his companions to see how they were doing.
Walking back to the tree he saw Latte and Pebble still hard at work. Working as a unit they smashed coconuts on the ground until Latte picked one up and shouted, “Last one!” Tossing it up to Pebble who just like the others threw it hard on the rocky floor. Both of them were cheering in delight.
Bogwater smiled and nodded, “Good job you two, now let's carry these back, I think we’ve earned ourselves a nice treat around the fire.” He commented. Pebble, beyond tired, slid down the tree and nearly collapsed on the floor.
“Aww let’s go Pebble I got you.” Latte smiled, picking up her friend she placed him on her back, looking at Bogwater with a smile and nod as the group pulled the bag of coconuts to bring back to their main group.
