Moss Covered Walls
Moss had always been a curious Trope, some would say, a little too curious for her own good. She zipped and zoomed through the brush of the abandoned city, spinning and flying through broken windows as she did little tricks for only her own eyes to see. She laughed in joy, echoing through the walls and empty alleyways, reminding her she’s completely alone here.
She scoffed at the lone thought that tingled in her head though. Alone? Yeah, that’s the point! She came here for fun and adventure, not to be reminded of the dangers of this city. Of what used to be, and worse, what could be.
Suddenly a breeze flew past her, invading her nostrils with the sweet aroma of something… Delicious? She questioned it, at first thinking to herself, oh maybe she’s just hungry but then it hit her again. And again. And once more she couldn’t handle the curiosity dial ticking anymore. Moss turned, her wings closing as she descended towards the dense brush of wherever this smell was coming from, at this point she just had to know.
“Ok… Trees, bushes, trees, trees and more treeses, who’s really shocked.” She muttered to herself, a little disappointed but unsurprised that that sweet smell of honey dripping down a tree was all but a lie.
Suddenly though the smell hit her again but this time harder. In another direction she turned and pushed with her wings to get a good distance towards wherever it was coming from, “This time I got it!” She told herself, licking her lips as her stomach growled for just a delicious bite of that honey comb.
Instead she found… A cup, a giant cup? Confused stilled her flight, flapping her winds midair and tried to examine what it was she was looking at. “Ok so where is it…?” she flew around it, taking in another whiff to confirm, yeah this is where the smell was coming from, which only led to more of her confusion.
Finding herself tired and at this point quite hungry she plopped herself down along the edge and took a look inside, wondering where the honey was. Using her wing, Moss scratched her head and noticed her feet. Whatever she was stepping on, it was sticky, and moving her feet did not help getting rid of this stickiness. Questionably she smelled it then licked it. Whatever it was though, it tasted damn sweet and she smiled. Finally! The sweet smell she was looking for.
Continuing to lick along the edge of the plant and inside, eying how dangerously close she was getting to that liquid she tried to keep a firm grip on the plant. After a while of licking she grew… Confused again. “This honestly seems too good to be true.” She told herself
That’s when it grabbed her, and firmly by her leg. Screeching Moss flapped her wings to try and fly away from whatever had a hold on her only to see it was a vine? “What the!” She growled and snapped her jaws at the vine, ripping it upwards and tearing at the base she stumbled out of the air and onto the forest floor.
Just when she thought she was freed more vines had shot out, now coming after her she scrambled back onto her feet and tried to fly away, though she didn’t get very far when giant jaws tried to clamp down on her. “Huh!?” She screeched in shock, dodging quickly as she stared to see what it was that had just almost made a meal out of her.
Another plant, this time with a sinister smirk and leaves coming out from what only looked like a bulbous head. But how could this be? I thought this place was long abandoned after well… Several accidents had occurred.
She really couldn’t afford the time to think though when another vine shot out from the brush to grab at her again. Moss dodged once again but not without stumbling in the air, flying up towards the tree tops she thought she would be home free before being swatted out of the air by more vines. Crashing down to the floor she panted and heaved for air, “This place is nuts.” She yelled to herself.
Trying to get herself back off the ground she found another set of jaws trying to snap at her, this time flowers bloomed from the top of the plants head and when she tried to bite and defend herself from her attack it released purple smoke into the air.
Coughing she tried to get herself away, realizing whatever it was, it had her seeing multiple different colors, too many even. Overwhelming her senses she almost didn’t see it lunge for her again, skimming her leg and cutting it as she took off to fly again.
Shaking her head as to free herself from the hallucinogenic she decided against flying towards the rooftop again and just thought to get as far away from here as possible. Now Moss had a little time to think about what just happened. “Giant plants with jaws, vines attacking me, sketchy honey water!? This place is mad creepy, it can’t just be me seeing things? … Though after what those flowers just smacked me with, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was starting to see things…”
Finding herself tired once again from all the commotion she found a small creek within the forest, looking up towards the sky again she could see the blue and white clouds turn red and yellow, signifying the setting sun. “Claws and bones, if I don't get out of here soon I definitely am going to be lost for good.”
Taking a few sips from the water, deeming it, or well, hoping it to be safe she kept a watchful eye around her for any other strange happenings. Eying some vines crawling towards her slowly she stumbled back to glare at them and tried to plan an escape route from here. Noticing a large clearing up in the sky she knew she didn’t have a lot of time before those vines got to her.
Taking one big leap in the air Moss knew she had to be fast. Faster than she had ever been in her life “If I don't get out of this..” She muttered to herself, flapping her wings as hard as she could, looking around her she could see the vines starting to catch up as they climbed against the tree’s branches and roots, readying to swat her down to the ground once again but this time she wasn’t going to let that happen, not again.
Moss was no bug, and like hell she was gonna be treated like one, especially by no plants that wanted to probably gobble her up for breakfast and eat her up like a piece of candy. With one last giant push from her wings, she hit the dome of the forest, vines shooting out to try and grab her from underneath, just narrowingly missing the toes of her feet.
Once she was a bit aways up in the air she laughed and shook her head, a wide smile on her face as she made a saluting gesture with her wings. “See ya later, maybe next time~!” She mocked and teased, adjusting her balance in the air as the moon rose up behind her.
From this day forward she vows to never set foot in some random scary jungle… At least not by herself.
