“Bring Franklin with you. He’s a clown, that’ll be your ticket in. Lockjaw can show you the way to Atlantis.”

The words from Pokie had caused Frankie to rage the rest of that night as Apocrypha, Kallista, and their two adopted Utaraptor children ate with Lockjaw and Pokie. After weeks of attempting to win over favor from the oviraptors, their hard work had finally paid off. Pokie had come to dinner and had informed them about where they all had come from, talking about a massive dome under the water.

But just like everything else up to that point, she still didn’t tell the full story. Neither did Lockjaw. The two Oviraptors simply stating that’s where they’d come from, and they’d been sent out as scouts. Their information to the locals of the isles about how to plant had been just a way for them to gather more information on the outside world as well, and then report it back to whoever it was they served inside the dome.

They made no mention of who was in the dome that they were obeying. And they didn’t elaborate on why Frankie would be a key figure for them to have in order to get into the dome itself. But Apocrypha and Kallista weren’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth.

The next day, the Alberto and her mate followed Lockjaw into the tunnels with Frankie in tow behind them. No one spoke as they walked, something heavy in the air as they descended deep below the surface of the water and into the tunnels that connected the two isles, and then lower still. Apocrypha was not a fan of the tunnel systems. There was nothing living down there. The algae and moss that grew over everything was cold, uncaring. It was not like the plants above that spoke to her and provided warmth and comfort.

Eventually the group reached an entrance. A massive gate that had been opened recently, but the plantlife from within was quickly overtaking the gate and threatening to invade the surrounding tunnel. Lockjaw stopped at the entrance and looked up at Kallista and Apocrypha before his attention turned down to Frankie.

“Right! This is as far as I go. Once you go in, just keep going straight and you’re bound to run into someone. Once you do! And this is very important, so listen up! Once you find someone, make sure you speak slowly and clearly enunciate your words because they’re a bunch of rocks-for-brains. Have him do a little dance and I am SURE they will let you through because he’s a bunch of bright colors. They’re simple creatures.” Lockjaw said before finger-gunning the group with his entirely too long fingers and started off.

“What the fuck does that mean! Hey! Lockjaw! Dude!” Frankie yelled after the Oviraptor who simply started to book it away from the group.

Kallista’s eyes narrowed as she watched the Ovi go, tapping her wing-fingers on Apocrypha’s back in annoyance as she sat on the Alberto’s back.

“Come on. The way he spoke of the dinosaurs inside, I don’t think we need to worry about being eaten. But I also don’t think we should treat them as simple as Lockjaw seemed to insinuate they are. Stay close, Frankie.” Apocrypha said and looked down at the Utahraptor who just rolled his eyes to look away from where Lockjaw had gone and followed after his mothers.

The sheer amount of plantlife took Apocrypha by surprise. It was almost as if they were back at the surface. The plants there seemed nice enough, happy. But there was still something just slightly off about them. Though she couldn’t place a claw on why there was an undertone of unease, danger.

                “Halt! Who goes there?!”

The three stopped in their tracks at the command, looking around to see where it had come from. The path they had been walking was clear ahead of them, if a little overgrown, which made Apocrypha look around into the thick overgrowth to the sides of the path. That’s when she felt the ground rumbling and saw the bushes and plants rattling as if something was running through them quickly. Smaller than she was, but still a sizeable creature.

“There’s two.” Kallista said, tapping Apocrypha on her left side to make the Alberto look over to the other side of the path where another creature was running at them. She spotted feathers and thick curved horns that poked through the underbrush. A moment later the pair of dinosaurs came through into the path and stopped ahead of the group.

One was feathered, crested in appearance, with dark feathers that gave way to a beautiful assortment of browns that faded amongst each other. Though the most interesting feature to Apocrypha were the thick plates that were bound to the creature. Horns decorated some of the plates, massive and slightly curled. She didn’t know the creature that those horns came from, and Apocrypha didn’t entirely want to find out either.

The other had a normal hide on him, with browns that marked his hide and reminded her of some sort of lizard she’d find in a more arid environment. But he had on plates as well, though his were not as primal as the ones the other creature had.

“None shall enter! Especially not something with teeth as sharp as yours! All of you, leave, now!” Korppi commanded, slamming her tail onto the ground and caused a noticeable dent where it had hit.

“Whoa whoa whoa. Hey, we’re guests.” Frankie said and smiled as he walked out from under Apocrypha, holding his hands out as if to show he was no threat. His claws on clear display which made the other Euoplo slam his tail onto the ground as well before swinging it around as if to aim at Frankie, making the raptor stop in his tracks.

“We found some of your friends. Lockjaw and Pokkie. Some little Oviraptor scouts of yours. They told us about you here. And said that we should introduce ourselves. Pokkie said you all might like…this!” Frankie said, quickly turning to display his side to the pair.

Apocrypha and Kallista watched as the multicolored raptor danced. Wiggling his hips and swaying his tail, dragging his feet along the ground as he hopped about.

Kallista had to close her eyes to keep them from rolling completely out of her head.

Apocrypha couldn’t help but watch the show, smiling slightly in amusement at whatever it was her son was doing.

Korppi and Nigel stared as well, neither unable to look away. A slight look of confusion and disgust came across Korppi’s face as her jaw dropped slightly, starting to look deeply offended. Nigel furrowed his brows at first while he watched Frankie before giving an approving nod.

“I bet he gets a bunch of females with that.” Nigel muttered over to Korppi who just slowly looked over at him then back at Frankie.

“Stop that. You are clearly harmless. I know the two Oviraptors you speak of, but why would they want you three here. Unless…You two! What skills do you have to offer!” Korppi demanded, swinging her tail around like Nigel had done to point at Apocrypha and Kallista.

The pair were thrown off, Apocrypha’s eyes going wide in surprise as she quickly looked around and attempted to figure out what sort of skill she could display. Kallista looked down at her, then around at the surrounding area as well to try and find anything before getting an idea.

She took off, darting over to a tree and landed on its trunk, gripping onto its side and held still. She wasn’t sure how great the eyesight was on the creatures, but she hoped that maybe Lockjaw had a point about them being easily tricked. If she held still long enough in the shadows, amidst vines with yellow flowers, she hoped they wouldn’t be able to spot her.

“She’d make a good scout.” Korppi muttered, tilting her head as she looked exactly where Kallista was, but was still impressed with how still Kallista could stay, let alone the fact that something as big as she was could cling to a tree. The darkness of her hide was another boon that the Euoplo could approve of. Nigel listened and gave a nod, allowing his tail to relax and go back to its natural position behind him.

The two looked right back at Apocrypha who had started to draw in the ground with a toe claw. She was careful, her foot steady as he depicted a beetroot in its various stages of life. The pair waddled closer as she drew, looking down at the images.

“The scouts did good. They brought us entertainment, a scout of the air, and a scholar. Do you approve of these three?” Nigel said and tilted his head as he looked over at Korppi. Her feathers flared along her eyes, the feather crests splaying out as she looked up at Apocrypha when she stopped drawing.

“I would’ve preferred warriors, but I’m not surprised. What are your names?” Korppi asked and looked at the three, watching as Kallista returned to her perch on Apocrypha’s back.

“Frankie, ma’am.” The raptor said, giving a completely over the top bow. Korppi rolled her eyes.

“I’m Apocrypha. And this is Kallista.” The Alberto said and nodded her head up to motion towards Kallista.

“I have heard these names. Good. Come, follow us and we can show you around a bit. So you don’t die while you’re here.” Korppi said and turned, marching off down the trail.

“What are your names?” Kallista asked as Nigel turned and followed after his counterpart.

“We are Knights Korppi and Nigel. Guardians of Atlantis.” Korppi announced without looking back as the three followed along after them.

Frankie raised an eyebrow at the official titles before looking up at Kallista.

“Mom. Psst.” He whispered up at her, teeth already on display as he grinned from ear to ear. Kallista looked down at him and furrowed her brows at just how smug he looked.

                “What.”

“Your skill sort of sucks. Anyone can stand still against a tree.”

“I swear to all that is holy-“ Kallista hissed under her breath at him, standing on her hind legs and flared her wings out aggressively down at him, making Frankie quickly take shelter under Apocrypha as the group walked to wherever it was the two Knights were going to bring them to.
