Sibling Squabble
The light of the sun was always an enjoyable thing. The warmth after a long cold night, or especially harsh winter never failed to bring some unreplicatable joy and liveliness. This, however, was not a universally experienced, or fully understood phenomena. Two young Utahraptors, accompanied by their father Gwyar, were walking down the shore of a beach. The sounds of the water splashing against the shore and receding was calming. The sand under their feet was warm, and felt strange to walk on. At least to the two hatchlings. Gwyar, of course being the father of the two was the largest, and chose to lag slightly behind. Letting the two run ahead along the shore to see if they’d burn themselves out. The hatchlings, filled with excitement of the new place, took the opportunity immediately to run ahead.
Dragoon was the younger of the two, as well as the brighter colored. She had managed to gain a decent bit of distance from her brother. As she made his best attempt to keep her head start, she’d pause and mock her brother with a few daring wing flaps and squawks. Each time she turned around to see her brother, Rustic, gained a few feet closer each time. Soon enough after once again turning to face her darker coloured brother, the two slammed right into each other. Rustic landed right on top of Dragoon. The hatchlings took a moment to regain themselves before Rustic decided to try and lay his full weight on top of his sister as some kind of revenge for the mocking.
Dragoon let out several squawks of protest as she began trying to kick and flail to get her younger, but heavier brother off. Though of course to very little avail. After a couple minutes of the two struggling against each other, Gwyar paused in front of the two, reaching down and grabbing Rustic by the scruff and moving him off Dragoon. The now freed Dragoon quickly got up and pouted as he once again began his trotting forward after shaking himself clean the sand that had covered many of his feathers.
Rustic made some small squawks and whines as he attempted to move out of his fathers teeth, to little avail. Rustic was only put down once Dragoon had once again gained a head start. The younger Utah gave a proper pout as he hung his head down with a couple annoyed squawks. It was clear the little Utah found the treatment difference unfair. Gwyar let out a soft sigh before reaching down and lightly pushing Rustic into motion with his nose.
“You’re stronger than her, you know that. Putting your weight on her like that, especially at your size could hurt her.”
Gwyar spoke calmly as he watched his youngest son slowly start walking again, even if he was taking his sweet time. Rustic let out a soft squeak as he felt himself get pushed into walking. He let out a few mocking squeaks as his father spoke to him. He knew it was true, but the fact that even now, up ahead Dragoon was back to mocking Rustic for not being as fast was annoying the little Utah even more.
“I’m not that much bigger!”
Rustic protested lightly, a light shake from the pouting laced the young Utah's voice as he flapped his wings in a huff. Gywar let out a light groan at the words, shaking his head softly as he chose to keep pace with his darker colored son. Gywar made a point to try and stick behind his son as the two slowly made their way to where Dragoon had paused.
“You’re still big enough to hurt him if you put too much force into it. She’s only a bit faster than you, she clearly takes pride in it. You can take pride in the fact you're stronger, but be careful.”
Gwyar continued on, trying his best to keep a stern, but calm tone. He was trying his best, and hoping what he was saying would actually stick in his youngests mind. Though, due to the continued faint mimicking he wasn’t so sure if it actually was. Gwyar let out a heavy sigh as he lifted his head up and began slowing down again, trying to once again have both his children in front of him for the time being.
Dragoon had been paused in front of, well, something. She was clearly distracted in it, considering the fact she was staring at it and jumping around it. At a distance it almost seemed like just a rock in the sand. The brightly coloured Utah leaned down with an intense curiosity to get a better look at it. She wasn’t expecting it to move, let alone pinch tightly around his lip.
Dragoon let out a decently loud yelp, which quickly drew Gwyars attention as he ran over to his eldest son. While it did not take long for the much larger Utah to make it to his son, just as he managed to make it over Dragoon managed to fling the crab attached to his lip off and a small distance away. Gywar let out a soft groan before moving down to try and get a better look.
It didn't appear to be bleeding, but the color of Dragoons feathers made that a slight issue to tell. After not much longer Rustic finally caught up as well. Gwyar looked down at the two for a moment. Once he believed the two would be fine his attention was quickly caught by some rustling nearby. Gwyar, sure in his belief of his children, let himself get drawn over where he began quickly looking through what shrubbery there was for what made the noise.
Meanwhile, Dragoon and Rustic were, for lack of a better term, staring daggers at each other. Neither clearly happy with the other, but both quickly had their attention stolen by the crab that had managed to scuttle its way back near the two. They stared at a distance.
“I call dibs!”
Dragoon quickly tried to walk towards the crab again, but was stopped when Rustic harshly bit and grabbed into his tail, causing the Utah to let out a light cry before she turned around and tried slapping at Rustic. As the older Utah swung a wing at him, Rustic let go and took a step to go around Dragoon.
“You can't just call dibs!”
Rustic gave a light hiss as he spoke, a mixture of previous annoyance and agitation seeming to properly boil over.*
“I found it first!”
Dragoon retorted, whining like a somewhat spoiled child as she tried taking a step towards the crab, which had been idly picking at what it could in the sand. Rustic followed along, taking another step to keep pace with his sister.
“And you cried like a baby cause it pinched you!”
Dragoon stared at Rustic for a moment, narrowing her eyes before glancing to the crab and quickly trying to make her way to it, once again being stopped by Rustic, this time much more harshly as he pounced at her before she got a chance to move. Once more he pressed it weight on top of his sister, not budging much as he pressed his weight once more onto her.
“Get off!”
The older Utah shouted, trying her best to try and swipe and kick and turn to get Rustic off, for once though, to proper success. Gwyar had still been rustling in the bushes, and did hear the yelps, but since the most recent reason was Crab related, he for the moment assumed it was a similar reason once again. It did go far after all.
As Dragoon pushed her brother off and quickly tried running forwards towards the Crab, Rustic quickly tried again to grab onto Dragoon once he regained himself from the light Daze of being pushed over. While it was successful, he didn't realize how little and quick the action was until he heard the blood curdling cry from his sister as his teeth sunk into her tail, and as a strong irony flavour washed over his tongue
Gwyars attention was quickly grabbed by the screech. He turned and saw the clamped jaw of Rustic holding onto the tail of Dragoon. Gwyar quickly rushed over, causing Rustic to let go as soon as he heard the footsteps of his father gaining over. Gwyar didn't say anything to Rustic when he came over. He quickly put all of his attention onto the currently crying Dragoon. He leaned closer, checking her tail. It was hurt, bleeding but not horribly. Not a bad wound, but still painful.
Once Gwyar had assessed his daughter's wound he slowly looked over to the silent Rustic with narrowed eyes as he sat down next to Dragoon. As he began speaking to Rustic, his tone was stern, and much, much more serious than when they spoke earlier. It shoot the little Utah to his core.
“I told you to be careful.”
