An Unexpected Encounter

Orchid, the strawberry tiger colored Utah, stalked low in the brush. Her glistening blue eyes locked onto a sizeable doe which appeared to have been seperated from its Herd. It was unfortunate for the deer, but for Orchid and her new family, this lone Doe would provide a decent meal- for now. She wriggled, ready to pounce, eager to get the kill this time, yet before her feet even left the ground Katana was upon the deer. His sharp and jagged teeth digging into the Doe's neck until it succumbed and ultimately went limp. 

"How is it you always get to the kill before me-" Orchid seemed to lament, though her gaze and demeanor seemed to tell a different tale, one of support.

"You just need to leap faster is all, you'll beat me to one in no time." Katana reassured, placing the now deceased Doe onto the ground. 

"You've told me that on many hunts already-" Orchid said drawing quiet, to which Katana swiftly came to her side and offered his mate an affectionate touch on the face with his. 

"- I meant them every time, you are improving." He added with a tender smile, only stopping when he heard another approach. It was Scyth3, his father. 

"Excellent work again you two!" He applauded, a slight clink came from the broken chains attached to his collar as he approached. He was a muscular sort, sharing a rib like marking on his side that Katana himself also inherited. 

"It was all Katana, he is quite skilled in the hunt." Orchid praised, to which Katana quickly interjected, "Without your help none of us would be eating." 

"Wise words-" Scyth3 spoke, obviously proud of his boy. "Let's bring this back to your mother, before a bigger predator shows up." 

Indeed, there was much speculation around the island and new concerns that had been swirling. Some strange new dinosaurs had been walking around, riddled and secretive. Their intentions were far from clear, and their appearance a startling reminder that stability was only a momentary state. Though these new birds were small and unassuming, it didn't mean there wasn't something else lurking, just waiting to pop out. 

So off they went, heading back toward their home in the abandoned urban zone. Hoping to bring their catch back without any sort of trouble. And they would have... until they came across a very strange bird indeed on the side of the road. 

Golden colored skin like the sun, with no feathers to be spotted - a striped crest atop its head and striking silvery-white eyes.The creature appeared weak, hardly bothered in seeing the trio and their fresh catch. The bird only looking up when it heard the pitter-patter of fresh blood and smelt the pang of iron in the air. 

"Food-" it weakly whispered, one arm outstretched as if to grab for it though it quickly fell back down. The dinosaur too tired to even hold it out. 

"What is that thing?" Orchid whispered under her breath, her gaze wide and uncertain. 

"I'm not sure-" Katana replied, though he was quickly cut off. "Let me handle this. " Scyth3 spoke firmly, approaching the bird with interest. 

"What brings you here... friend?" Scyth3 spoke, his tone friendly but firm. 

The bird however wasn't too interested in talking, it's silvery white eyes locked onto the carcass at Katana and Orchids feet. 

"I... don't suppose.... you could spare- some food?" The creature gulped. 

"This doe is food for our family." Orchid whispered back, "Yeah! We don't know you!" Katana added. 

"That's enough-" Scyth3 sighed, "We can spare a bit." He spoke, walking over to the deer before methodically tearing off a leg. It wasn't much in the Grand scheme of things, but it was something. 

"Here-" Scyth3 spoke as he nudged over the leg to the hungry Ovi. His eyes now alight with hunger, not hesitating to grab the leg and begin his unexpected meal. Before long the Ovi had consumed the whole thing, save for the fur and hoof- his beak eagerly munching on bones- if only to be sure he had gotten every last morsel of food. 

"We are glad you've eaten, hopefully you'll find your strength again enough to seek shelter and more food elsewhere. The urban area is not an ideal place to find a meal." Scyth3 recommended, turning to the kids to take their leave. He expected to keep going without another word from the Ovi, yet again he was once again surprised. 

"More-" He croaked after them. "Please, help me." 

Scyth3 turned back, his eyes locked onto the somber eyes of the Ovi. 

"Dad- can't we go? We've given him more than we should have already." Katana whispered, eager to leave and return to S0nya. 

"Maybe..." Orchid spoke up, causing both males to look back at her. "Maybe we should help him.." she added softly, her tail gently swishing from side to side out of nervousness. 

"Everyone has been talking about those birds since they appeared... and about all those seeds they keep planting. Maybe, maybe this is our chance to get some answers... for... everyone?" 

Orchid drew silent, her eyes softly scanning the expressions of Scyth3 and Katana, fully expecting them to negate the idea entirely. 

"Like I told you earlier boy, good job. She's a keeper." Scyth3 said with a gleam in his eye. She was absolutely right, this was their opportunity to get some answers- and perhaps their good will could allow this stranger to open up with exactly what they needed to know. Were they all in danger? Would the humans return? Scyth3 couldn't pass up the opportunity. 

Turning back to the Ovi, it was Katana now that stepped forward, offering the bird the entire Doe... much to his shock. 

"You need it more than we do-" Katana said, before finding a spot closeby to sit down. Orchid curling up with him.

"So, bird- what brings you here?" Scyth3 asked again. 

"It's...it's a long story-" 

"We've got time."
