Coincidence? I think NOT

Paradise stopped in his tracks, arms full of the berries that he’d hoarded from the curious trio of carnivores the previous day. He had saved most of what he’d taken from Tobias, Apocrypha, and Kallista so that he could plant them around the isles along with all the rest of the seeds he had been told to plant.

But before him was a Utahraptor, pale yellow but with black eating away at her feathers. He quickly crouched down so that the cursed raptor wouldn’t see him as she turned from the massive leaf of berries she’d set out, much like the leaves that had been set out by the three the other day. Paradise tilted his head a bit.

She left, walking a few feet before stopping and seemed to be thinking before she turned back to the berries and made her way back to it. The female fussed over the pile for a moment, gathering up what little strays had rolled off the main pile of berries and put them back onto the main pile. Once they had been reset, she got back up and started off again but stopped.

Paradise watched as this happened a few times, the Utah getting more and more angry looking each time she stopped and then went back to the berries. After she had readjusted she had then went back to try a berry but quickly spat it out and made a face. The third time she went back she had moved the whole leaf further towards the trees nearest to him. It was the fourth time that made him chuckle a bit.

The raptor had tried to walk off again, but had stopped and started to angrily tap her large dewclaw on the ground.

“Fucking god damn it. Just fucking leave it alone. It’s fine.” She hissed under her breath, turning to look back at the berries and glared.

“Whatcha doin’ with the berries now?” Paradise asked, jumping up onto his feet and smiled, berries from his arms falling and scattering around.

“FffUC-“ The raptor snarled, her feathers standing on end as she jumped and turned towards Paradise, lowering her head and raised her tail to spread her tail feathers in some sort of odd threat display that Paradise didn’t find that threatening.

“You keep going back and forth from them. Are they not good? They smell good?” Paradise asked, making his way out of the trees and went to stand beside the pile of berries, tilting his head to stare down at them then tilted his head right back up to look at Cleric.

“They’re fine. I think they’re fine. They are fine, right? I don’t eat berries. My parents told me to set them up like this. Probably for you people.” Cleric replied and motioned towards the berries and then to him.

“ ‘You people’? You mean Oviraptors? Or like…all of the omnivores?” Paradise asked, watching as the raptor slowly fold her tailfeathers back, the rest of her feathers laying back down normally as she stood back up and recovered from the jump scare he’d accidentally given her.

“I guess…you Oviraptors. I was told to mash them up, put them on a leaf, and then put a bunch of fresh picked ones on said leaf-“ Cleric started to say but she and Paradise both had their attention pulled to the sky as they heard flapping above them.

Paradise couldn’t help but smile when he spotted Kallista’s distinctive hide as she came down and landed on a tree near the two and looked down at them.

“Mom, I got one. You got here just in time. Oddly good time. Were you watching nearby?” Cleric asked, narrowing her eyes as she looked up at Kallista.

Kalli didn’t reply at first, looking at Cleric but her attention had stayed on Paradise, surprised at how many berries he still had from their previous meeting. She had figured he would’ve eaten them all or dropped them all by that point.

“Your mother said we should come this way. She felt it on the wind.” Kallista replied finally and looked back at Cleric.

“Of course she did.” Cleric muttered.

“The wind talks to the dinosaurs out here?” Paradise asked and watched as both the Trope in the tree and the Utah beside him just sighed.

“A few of us. Most don’t hear anything, though. And it’s not outright talking. Just something I feel in my gut.” Apocrypha said, the Albertosaur making her way from the trees behind Paradise. He jumped a bit, holding a leg up as he held his berries closer to his chest as if he’d been about to guard them with his life.

“That’s kinda cool, though! You know, for being so large, you are very quiet. What are you and your friend doing out here, though? You guys are the parents of this raptor? How?” Paradise asked, putting his leg down slowly as he looked up at Apocrypha before nudging his head towards Cleric.

“Cleric is our daughter, yes. Not by blood, clearly. But we found her and her brother when they were unhatched and we hatched them. As for what Kallista and I are doing out here, I wasn’t sure. I felt that we should come and see Cleric, and we should do so quickly. Time was of the essence, and I can see why now. I’m happy we could see you again, Paradise. Where have you been these last few days? You still have berries that we gave you.” Apocrypha asked and smiled as she moved to sit down beside Cleric and watched the Oviraptor.

“Oh! Well, I’ve just been around! I saved as many of the berries of yours as I could so I could plant them around with the rest of the seeds I’ve been planting. Thank you both for the snacks, and seeds! And then I was in the area to do my normal thing and then I saw Cleric! She was freaking out over the berries, couldn’t leave them be!” Paradise said and looked at Cleric and laughed a bit.

Apocrypha smiled a bit, looking over at Cleric who had quickly stopped smiling and was just staring at Paradise as the little Oviraptor continued to chatter on animatedly.

“Speaking of! Could I get some of those berries? If they were meant for me, I’d like to take some.” Paradise said and pointed down to the berries. He didn’t bother to wait for a reply, moving forward and dropped more of his own berries to reach down with a hand and picked up one that Cleric had gathered to pop it into his mouth and try it as well. His eyes widened and he pointed repeatedly at the pile and gave several nods of approval.

“You can have them. I don’t want them.” Cleric grumbled, furrowing her brows as she watched the yellow-green Ovi start to hurriedly pick up as many as he could. Kallista watched as well, impressed with the energy that Paradise had.

Kalli then looked at Cleric, then over at Apocrypha and found the Albertosaurus simply smiling in amusement as she watched the Oviraptor, “Where are you going after this, Paradise? What could you possibly be doing with all of these seeds? Why do you have to plant all of these things? What about your brothers and sisters, do they all do this as well?” Kallista asked.

“Oh yeah, we all-Oh no! Look at the time! The sun is halfway through the sky! I gotta go! I’ll see you guys later!! Thank you for the seeeeeeds!” Paradise said, running off halfway through his sentence and lingering on the word ‘seeds’ as he ran off as if that would help him be heard by the group.

“He didn’t even eat them. Or do anything with the mushed up berries.” Cleric said, looking over at Apocrypha after Paradise lelft.

“He eats them sometimes. He at least tried one. The mushed up berries are to help him find you and the berries, the smell carries better on the wind.” Apocrypha said and smiled as she got to her feet and looked up at Kallista, “We need to go and see our son, I believe. Cleric, you are welcome to join us.” She added, glancing down at Cleric and then bent down to carefully press her head to Cleric’s.

“It’s fine. I’m going to stay here for a bit longer. I might catch up with you guys here in a day or two, though.” Cleric replied and finally smiled, closing her eyes as she headbumped Apocrypha back carefully.

“Is the wind telling you that we need to see Frankie.” Kallista asked and tilted her head as she unfolded her wings and fell from the branch she’d been on and glided over to land on Apocrypha’s back. She waved to Cleric as the Albertosaur started off, lumbering off into the forest again and started towards the east, off towards the Shimmering Cove.

Back to where the whole wild goose chase had started.
