That Could've Gone Better (Karma - )
When rumors started to sprout up about the dinosaurs that were involved with the massive amounts of plants that had popped up, Blight took notice. He took notice quickly. He’d been watching others around the isles for some times, trying to determine who knew what, if anyone knew anything at all. And up to that point, no one had caught on to anything at all.
He’d watched Snapjaw and the Cryo and Para with her investigating the rivers, but they’d seen nothing. He’d seen Apocrypha, attempted to intimidate her into telling him what she knew. Seers always knew something, but they’d never give up their secrets willingly. But she hadn’t been intimidated, and she hadn’t known anything either.
“Not that I doubt him, you know. But…” Riptide said carefully, trotting alongside Blight as he and his brother kept up with the Acro. He hated how he was always roped into things. But it was to be expected, especially if you owed a debt to the Pale One.
“He’s blind, so how can you trust in what he claims?” Blight rumbled, walking through the forest and breaking down whatever smaller tree or bush was in front of him.
“Yes, but I mean no disrespect.” Riptide replied quickly and looked up at the black and gold Acro beside him.
“It’s not like he even left his cave, ya know?” Waverunner added.
“He leaves his cave often, fool. It’s not what he saw. It’s what he smelled and heard. The thing smelled of tree blossoms. And ran on two feet with long, quick, strides. So we’re going to the human gardens. I know of a place that has a bunch of those tree blossoms there.” Blight replied, and narrowed his eyes as he glanced back at Waverunner but didn’t say anything else to him.
Waverunner just lowered his head and carefully moved to the other side of Riptide, so that someone was between himself and Blight.
Blight bared his teeth at the two. They didn’t understand. Not yet, anyway. The Pale One was keenly aware of the changes around the isles, and wanted them fixed, in any way possible as quickly as possible. They needed to stop what they were doing, and let the isles go back to how they had been. Nothing unnatural was supposed to happen anymore on the isles. Ever since the Pale One had been freed from the labs, he’d been insistent that nothing else change.
Things should always remain as they were. As they always had been.
“But, like…you know. What if all of these plants are good? It’ll make all the plant eating creatures overpopulate, and that means more food for us! More parties on the beach! Surf and turf, my man!” Waverunner said and smiled, seeing the look on Blight’s face go from annoyed to downright angry with whatever had been going through his mind.
Riptide’s eyes widened as he looked over at Waverunner then over at Blight who had stopped in his tracks and looked at Waverunner. As soon as he’d stopped, the two Cryo’s stopped as well, though Waverunner had started to back away.
“Hey, hey. He doesn’t mean to doubt the Pale One, he’s just bringing up a good point. What has he said to you?” Riptide asked quickly and looked up at Blight.
The Acro looked at the pair before bringing himself up, drawing himself up onto his hind legs and looked horrifically menacing. And that didn’t change as Blight bellowed a warning roar, deafening in volume and made the pair of Cryolos flinch before Blight charged forward.
Riptide had accepted his fate as Blight charged at him and Waverunner, crouching down in sheer terror while Waverunner did the same as well. The pair were completely thrown off as Blight stepped over them, running at something beyond them. The brothers turned their heads quickly to see what it was and spotted…an Oviraptor?
Blight was ripping through the forest after something that was easily out pacing him, seeds being spilled out behind the Oviraptor as they ran for their life.
“Come on, before we’re on the menu instead!” Riptide said, smacking his brother’s snout to snap him out of his thoughts before they got up and darted off after Blight. They quickly ran to get around the massive dino, splitting up to get on either side of the gray and black Oviraptor. Though Riptide found himself furrowing his brows at the sight, seeing some sort of red paint decorating the neck and shoulders of the creature.
“Get it!” Blight screeched behind the two Cryolophosaurus.
Riptide gave a nod, quickly starting to close in on the Oviraptor. Waverunner had started to fall back as soon as the Ovi had tried to dodge away from Rip and get away from Blight. The end result was the three managing to surround the Secretary bird-like Oviraptor. Blight was panting, trying to catch his breath as he and the other two circled around their prey.
“Please! Don’t kill me! I’m just trying to plant these…” Sagittarius said and went to show the group the pouches of seeds he’d been carrying but found the pouches empty. He quickly flung them to the ground to show the three. “I was planting seeds!” The Oviraptor cried up at the three, his attention changing around at a dizzying pace between the two Cryo brothers and the Acro. He didn’t know which one to be more concerned over.
“Why. What seeds are these that you’re planting? Who’s telling you to do this?” Blight asked, taking a step closer to Sagittarius and snapped at him, his jaws making a deep ‘thump’ sound as they snapped shut. Riptide and Waverunner could both feel the power behind the snap, how it displaced the air.
“Tell us quickly, and we won’t kill you. Are there more like you?” Riptide asked.
Sagittarius’s eyes flicked from male to male as they spoke to him, expecting Waverunner to as something as well but he remained silent.
“I don’t know! I was given these seeds and just had to go and plant them! I swear that’s all I know about the seeds. Nothing! And there are a few more like me! Just one or two more. We’re scattered, and all planting these things.” Sagittarius blurted, his movements becoming far more twitchy as he watched the three. His feathers lying flat against his body and he crouched down, trying to look as small as he could, as non-threatening as he could look.
“Waverunner.” Blight snarled, bringing his face right up to the Oviraptor in a split second, making the small dinosaur produce a small ‘eep’ like sound as he quickly held his arms up over his face as if to hide from the big Acro.
Waverunner looked at him quickly before looking back at Sagittarius. Ever since they’d managed to trap the poor thing, Wave knew what he was going to do from the start. No good was going to come from what they were doing, but none of them would make it out if Blight wasn’t happy. All his replies needed to be quick. And the blue and gray Cryolophosaurus waited only long enough to reply to make it seem like he was actually studying the creature in front of them.
“He’s telling the truth.” Waverunner said.
He wasn’t. Nor was Waverunner himself. But they just needed Blight to believe. Only then would there be a chance for Sagittarius to leave.
Riptide looked at Waverunner before his attention finally made its way back up to Blight. The Acro looking at Wave as well before looking back at the oviraptor and hissed as he exhaled and gave the Ovi some space again.
“Where are the others? Why should I let you live? If you’re just doing what you’re told, and I hate what you’re doing. Why should I allow you to live?” Blight asked. Waverunner sighed internally, happy that Blight had fallen for whatever Wave was going to feed him.
“I don’t know where they are! But…but! I can maybe find them! Or maybe ask them about who is giving us these seeds! Only I can do that. You won’t be able to get close to the others.” Sagittarius said quickly as he watched Blight.
Riptide listened, tilting his head a bit before looking back up at Blight.
Blight seemed to be considering the idea as he walked in a slow circle around the raptor. His teeth were still bared as he looked at the raptor before he shook himself off and closed his mouth.
“You meet me back here in one days time. I have your scent. If you don’t meet me back here in one day, I will have my two friends here come and find you. And they will have you come and visit me. And you will not be enjoying our chat if you’re forced to come to me. Do you understand?” Blight asked, cocking his head to the side as he finally stopped his pacing and looked down at the raptor.
Sagittarius gave a quick nod as he uncovered his head and looked up at Blight then at the two Cryo’s when Blight motioned for them. The pair of brothers stopped at his command, making their way back over to stand on either side of the Acro. The three watched as Sagittarius quickly turned and ran, darting off into the darkness of the deep forest.
“I am going to wait right here. Bring me something to eat. And pray for that creature. If he is anything like Magpie, he is smart. And he’ll be back tomorrow, hopefully with some useful information.” Blight demanded of the two, waving them away.
Riptide and Waverunner listened, giving quick nods before trotting off as well into the forest. The brothers exchanged looks, horrified at what they’d just done. They’d just seen firsthand evidence of a new species on the isles, and Blight had gone and threatened the man.
“We’ll find him later. Bring him food and apologize. Or see if there are others that can do that for us. So Blight doesn’t know we’re helping.” Riptide whispered over to Waverunner who gave a quick nod.
“I didn’t know Magpie had family.” Waverunner whispered back.
“Nor did I. I don’t think he did either.” Rip said before running off.
