Spring had blossomed in full and the foliage amongst the island was growing nicely with new food sources and growth all around causing the many herbivores of the island to be out and new life learning how to provide for themselves without the help of their guardians. 

Further in the forest area the quick movement of

Two small figures could be seen as a young theri and young sty let out laughs and chased each other playfully before coming to a stop as the sound of gurgling echoed in the quiet area.

“ is that your stomach” Eternus laughed as he shook his frill around looking at Fireworks who froze when his stomach growled which made the two burst into laughter.

The two had become friends when Monster and Firework had stumbled upon a large herd of styracosaurus and Eternus had been one of the new hatchlings who had hatched that spring blossoming a quick friendship between the two herbivores and they were out wanting to try and forage themselves and it seemed like they entered the forested area at a good time because they were getting hungry, but a normal bush wouldn’t due. 

“I think we should find a big tree and try and get that fruit off of it, just like the elders” the young Styraco said as he trotted alongside Fireworks who laughed at the thought of his short friend. As they walked they passed by many things they could have eaten but that would have been too easy as Fireworks was ahead with Eternus catching up when he got side tracked the two coming across a small pond that lay right off the pathway they had been following not too far from their hard.

It was full of reeds and murky pond water which caught the eye of Fireworks who spotted beautiful flowers that bloomed and gave off a yummy scent but the only problem is they were in the middle of the pond.

“look over there Eternus, doesn’t that stuff look really good we should try and get it come on” Fireworks said as he stood at the edge of the pond looking at Eternus who didn’t seem to thrilled about going in the pond but joined anyways as he stepped in following Fireworks.

“I can stand on top of your back and use my claws. what do you think!” Fireworks added as he felt his stomach growl again at the sight of the vibrant plants that sat in the middle of the pond.

Eternus nodded as he stood at the edge of the deeper area of the pond leaning over while Fireworks had stood on his back trying to reach for the flowers each of them doing their part to try and not to fall over or in the pond itself.

“Just a little more forward I can almost taste it!” Fireworks said as he used his claws that were just in reach of the vibrant plant they were trying to reach. With Eternus stretching as far as he could but the mud in the bottom of the pond was becoming slippery which made the young sty have to catch himself so Fireworks wouldn’t fall.

“Are you sure we can’t find somewhere easier, I think I’m slipping” he said through a gritted beak as he felt his feet go out from underneath him.

“Eternus!” Firework squawked as the two fell into the pond causing a large splash, causing water to go everywhere. Even with soaked it seemed like the two were successful as Eternus looked over at Fireworks who was drenched but had happened to grab the plants they were after in his claws during the fall.

“Well that wasn’t on the plan but I got it look! We are just all muddy and soaked now” Fireworks said shaking out his feathers as he stood up and got out of the pond which the small sty followed.

“Let’s try it out! We didn’t go

Through all that hard work to not just eat them!” Eternus said as he followed behind Fireworks who laughed and nodded before placing the vibrant plants on the ground making sure to be careful with them until feeling a sharp poke in his claw “Ow, there is something spikey on them” he added looking at the stems.

Now the two had another hurdle to overcome to get their meal they worked for but Eternus had an idea as he had watched the elders of his herd do this with tough to eat plant life, taking the stem he rubbed his beak across them which caused the thorns to rub off making the stem soft and now easy to grab “This should do!”.

“What a great idea! We can finally try this out after all the work to get it we deserve a snack” Fireworks said as he chewed on the plant and smiled his feathers ruffling a bit, it was really good and tasty and worth the hard work they had to do to get it even if they got muddy and wet in the process.

Fireworks and Eternus enjoyed the plant matter as they had a few before feeling full after a while and decided it was time to head back to the herd but this time they would bring back some more of the vibrant plant they had gotten to take back to the herd.

“I’m glad we came out and did the work ourselves this time , even if it was hard to get” Eternus honked as he carried some stems on his frill and Fireworks carried more in his claws, nodding in agreement with his friend. Finding good food was hard

And even if it proved a challenge but it was well worth it and the two would keep the listens they learnt today about it and how hard it was to get food sometimes but this time

They were successful and could share with the herd as they made their way up the hill spotting Eternus’s mother and Monster who hadn’t gone to far waiting for Fireworks return.
