The lava flow islands had been active pretty recently as volcano’s erupting in small spurts before calming as ashe storms coated the surrounding areas, with the area feeling grey with ash and shoot. With most sticking away from the ashey areas some enjoyed it as it uncovered various calcium spots.

The sound of stomping echoed as volcanic rock fell due to being moved and soon a voice who was filled with excitement “Smoketrail come on! We are almost there to the calcium deposits that get uncovered when there is volcanic activity. Remember what the elders said!”  The grey scaled Styraco honked backwards who was known as Greylander, and he was accompanied by another young Styraco who went by the name of Smoketrail.

Smoketrail snorted he picked up his pace so that Greylander would stop talking once he started he never stopped. Smoketrail followed behind as they approached a small volcanic ash area and white bones stuck out from the black sand around them they had make their way to the calcium deposits and now it was time to get digging, with most herbivores that lived on the volcanic islands they had to adapt to the life style and harsh food sources that they could forage so Calcium deposits such as bones and other things they would dig up set as another way to get a good bite to eat in and the elders in Greylander and Smoketrail’s herd had showed the young ones where it was they wanted to try it out themselves.

Smoketrail stopped as he sniffed the ground before snorting as he spotted a few bones sticking out from it “look it seems I found some already!” He said as he used his horn to move it around and dug with his front claws. Right behind him was Greylander who had already made a divot in the sand as he pawed it backwards sending some flying at Smoketrail who grumbled in annoyance but Greylander was the first to find a large bone that he pulled out with his beak.

“Look at this one Smoketrail it’s huge I wonder what dinosaur left this behind, but it sure is tasty” Greylander said as he gnawed on it with his teeth making a loud noise.

Smoketrail watched as Greylander was the first to find something in the calcium deposit and now it was his turn but digging around he hadn’t found anything yet. Sniffing around he flicked his tail in the air before spotting a darker area in the ash and began to dig in as a faint white poked out which seemed to look like a Ribcage but it was buried deep he would have to work for it.

“You find anything yet Smoke? These bones are super tasty almost have a hint of volcanic taste don’t ya think!” Greylander called over to Smoketrail as he watched. 

Smoketrail grabbed on to the part he had unburied with his beak and began pulling hard planting his feet in the ash as the sand moved away with the ribcage coming loose slowly.

The elders of the herd always talked how important the deposits were to visit and they were right as the bones provided other things that the dried up ferns and plants couldn’t.

“Come loose you stupid bone!” Smoketrail said as he pulled one last time falling back and sending ash cloud flying as he spotted the ribcage in front of him and the laughing from Greylander.

“Look you finally did it! Now hurry up and try it” Greylander said as he stood up carrying his bone in his beak wanting to join Smoketrail who was just now getting to try the delicious bone marrow.

“Oh wow you were right these are good! Can’t quite pinpoint the taste but it does taste ashy” Smoketrail said as he talked in between knawing on the bones. As the two enjoyed the first few bones they had found it was time to go looking for more as they hadn’t dug in any other areas of the deposit.

after awhile the two go up and went digging for more as Smoketrail was the first to find a small skull he had dug up and Greylander had found a few randomly spread out bones when he dug around again.

“There is so many I don’t think I can dig anymore” Greylander said as he laid down next to a large pile of bones he had been collecting as he looked around seeing Smoketrail return with more as he trotted over with a leg bone in his beak.

“Well we have dug a lot but man are these deposits loaded with so many bones we could wait here and share with the herd when they come what do you think Greylander?” Smoketrail said as he looked at their bone pile proudly they had done a well job for their first time in the calcium deposits on the volcanic islands.

Greylander nodded as he leaned over grabbing a large leg bone and scratched his horn on it to soften the area before begging to gnaw on it again, while they waited for the herd they could try the different types of bones they had gathered and Smoketrail was soon to join Greylander as he picked up a small skull which was crunchy when he chewed on it.

After awhile the sound of loud bellows could be heard off in the distance, Smoketrail and Greylandes herd had come to forage at the deposits and enjoy the bone treats. 

“Time to share the herd is here! Let’s show them what we dug up!” Smoketrail said as he called back to his herd with them coming to join the two youngsters in the volcanic treats that hid below only to be just dug up! And the elders were happy to hear about there adventures at the deposits and were excited to see all the bones Greylander and Smoketrail had gathered, the entire herd enjoying

Their day together.

“ to more deposit adventures!” The two said as they continued to enjoy the variety of bones!
